Tobias

Chapter 19

I shake Tris awake, careful not to hurt her arm. Flashing her eyes open, she looks confused. I want to explain, but I can't think of the right things to say.

Her light blue eyes look tired, with dark purple lines under them, and she looks like she can barely keep them open.

Yawning, Tris mumbles,"To...bias, where...are we go...ing?" Liv stirs in my arms, but I rock her back to sleep.

"To Abnegation. The divergent rebuilt it, and it's our best option now." She nods, but doesn't look fully satisfied.

I stand up, wincing with pain when I move my arm. The cloth on my arm is starting to bleed through, but it will have to do for now, because it will get worse if I release the pressure. Tris's arm is worse, blood sinking through the cloth, dyeing it red, and slowly rolling down her arm.

Tris stands up, causing her to lean onto her left leg, the one that isn't shot. I wish I could carry her, but my arm would give out, and I don't want her to get hurt.

As we near Abnegation, the train slows, but not enough. Tris tries to blink her tears away, tears from the pain she's anticipating.

I grab Alex from her, trying to keep him asleep, even though it's pointless. Once we jump, he and Liv will definitely be awake. I carefully lie them both in the bag, putting it onto my shoulder, and I wish they didn't have to be in there, but know that it's the safest place for them.

I put my hand on Tris's face, brushing my fingers along her jaw bone, saying,"Tris, you're going to be okay,"and I kiss her, then continue,"I love you."

She nods, her eyes screaming from pain, but her mouth shut. I lace my fingers into hers. "Together?" Nodding again, she closes her eyes and leans against my chest. "I love you too." Then we run, and Tris yelps, squeezing my hand so tight I think it might fall off. We jump, and her fingers claw my hand. This hurts, but when I look at her leg, it's gushing blood, even through the cloth.

When we land, Tris screams, and falls to the ground. Pain splashes through my arm, and quickly travels through the rest if me. I kneel beside her, and squeeze my hand around her leg. She stops screaming, but tears roll down her face. As her eyes close, she leans her head into my chest.

She tries to stand up, and gets to her feet, but falls after a few steps. Groaning in frustration, she says,"Tobias, just leave me." I shake my head. "No, I'll carry you." I know I can't carry her, but I at least need to try.

Alex and Liv are crying, but if I stop now, I don't know if I can start again.

After I don't know how long, we get to Abnegation. People run to us, and take Tris out of my hands. Seconds later, I collapse, and suddenly there is nothing.
