Familiarity

Kim Jongin, also known by his colleagues as 'Kai', sighed in both relief and happiness that the war is finally over. He closed his eyes and smiled widely because finally he could go home. Finally he could be together with his soon-to-be wife, and fill all the years they spent apart.

"Jung Soo Jung, finally we can be together again!" He exclaimed in pure joy and excitement, tightly holding the pendant she gave him before he left for the army.

The trip home to SM Town was long, and because the war has just ended, all trains were heavily crowded by both civilians and soldiers alike. He was very tired but he certainly does not want to let that old lady with a child stand sandwiched in between those passengers so he gave his seat for them. To him, nothing could ruin his mood or cause inconvenience because his excitement to see his fiancé is over flowing.

Jongin and Soo Jung haven't been dating for so long, but the war was fast approaching and he doesn't want to take any chances. He proposed to Soo Jung, or what her friends call her 'Krystal', even though he hasn't met her family yet. They made a promise and Krystal faithfully vowed to wait for Kai for as long as it takes.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, the train stopped at NCity. His legs hurt but he doesn't mind. He can't wait to see her! He ran and then walked and he just wanted to drop his bags because they're too heavy and he just can't wait to arrive home.

The moment he stepped foot on Krystal's door, he had mixed emotions. He was excited and nervous at the same time. He knocked thrice but there was no answer. He patiently waited then knocked again. 

Maybe she's still at the bathroom or something he thought optimistically while walking around the house, hoping to maybe see her in the windows or the gardens. To his disappointment, there were no signs of her. The house was quiet.

All of a sudden, a thought crossed his mind and his smile was replaced by a frown. A doubt formed in his heart.

Maybe it's true – the one my fellow soldiers said about leaving a girl behind and when you come back they were already married to someone else, regardless of your promises! Aish! I should've just married her officially right away! Kai thought to himself frantically. He lowered down his head and couldn't stop fidgeting. Tears were about to fall from his eyes. 

Maybe she has left...me.

But Kai was not the one to give up. He raised his head and lifted his fist with conviction and courage to knock again. "No. Krystal would never leave me. She promised," He mumbled to himself and smiled, unwavering hope and courage glinting in his eyes.

As he was about to knock, the door went open.

A girl with long brown hair and blonde ombre highlights appeared in front of him.

"Hello. May I help you?" the same girl with milky skin, long pointed nose, and rosy lips asked the dumbfounded Kai in front of her.

Kai doesn't know why but he was immediately enthralled by her beauty. As if she was an angel who came down from above for him. The moment he looked into her hazel orbs, he felt something magical, he felt something familiar as if she has known this girl for a while. To Kai, it felt like time has stopped and they were the only ones in space.

Unbeknownst to him, Wendy felt the same. She doesn't know why but she felt the urge to hug him as if she was waiting for him for so long. She felt chills ran down her spine and a strange familiarity she couldn't explain. She felt as if time has stopped and they were the only ones in space.

Kai woke up in his trance when it dawned to him that it was the wrong woman who has opened the door. He was pretty sure he knocked on the right door, right?

"Do you know anyone who live here named Jung Soo Jung? Or maybe Krystal?" He answered her which snaps Wendy back into reality.

"I-I'm sorry but who are you?" She answered with a hint of suspicion. She eyed Kai up and down – tall, tan, plump lips, smexy...

wait where did that come from?! 

Wendy suddenly gasped in realization.

Kai opened his mouth to introduce himself. "I'm – "

"KIM JONGIN!" They both said at the same time. Well, Wendy half-shouted, shocked with that derp face of hers. 😂

"What's wrong Wannie? Why did you – KIM JONGIN!" Krystal didn't finish her sentence because she was cut off by the wonderful and what seemed like unbelievable sight in front of her. She gasped and placed her hands in her mouth, pearly tears started to form in her eyes.

"Kai, you're alive!" She ran towards him and hugged him like her life depends on it. Kai tightly hugged her back.

"I missed you so much!"

"I missed you too!" Now, Krystal were crying on his sleeves. She just can't contain the happiness she felt to be in the arms of the man she truly loves once again. Wendy stood by the side lines feeling so out of place, overwhelmed by the lovers' reunion so she cleared her throat.

"Ah right! I'm sorry. Kai, this is Wendy. Wendy, this is Kai – yes the Kim Jongin I have been talking about for years" Krystal explained and wiped her eyes, her nose still puffy from crying.

Kai brought out his hand to shake Wendy's.

"Hello, I am Kim Jongin. I am pleased to meet you." Kai smiled warmly at her. His eyes screaming gentleness and unconscious attraction towards the petite young lady.

"Hello, I am Son Seungwan, pleased to meet you too" Wendy smiled back and she found her self unable to look him in the eyes.

The moment their hands touched, there it was again. The strange feeling they wanted to just brush off but can't. It's as if there were sparks flies floating around, as if there was a voltage of electricity they felt whenever their skins touched. Their eyes met again and Wendy suddenly blushed, broke eye contact and removed her hand.

"Oh and Wendy is my half-sister!" Krystal broke the silence and happily smiled. "It's really a great timing dear, the war has ended and my beloved sis Wannie is staying here with us for a while because her wedding is in two weeks! Isn't it great?" she soothed Wendy's back and smiled at her lovingly and the other girl smiled back shyly.

After hearing those words, Kai didn't know why but suddenly he felt a pang in his heart. He couldn't find the right words to say so he just uttered a sincere congratulations.

Something doesn't feel right.
