Day 2

The air was thinner than I remembered, my lungs grasping more than I needed as we rode past the beautiful city views of London, the foster home wasn't anywhere 'special' but the view from my window was incredible, it was the same view I saw every morning and night. The clear water that reflected back at the sky waved along as the breeze pushed it the opposite way.

I pushed on the ground once more before I let the force, I had created, take the board away as I tried to steer it sideways. The sky was orange and the clouds of cotton rapidly changed as it moved towards the sun, it hid from the reality of day.

I stopped my board simultaneously as Ashton jumped off his. We both grabbed hold of the object in our right hand as we childly raced to the top of the stairs.

I steadied my breath as we both signed back in. Michael waved towards Ashton but I chose to ignore the small gesture, I wasn't too keen on Michael but I hadn't even given him a chance yet, he walked past us towards the stairs.

"Hey." He smiled. "Coming to dinner?"

Ashton laughed. "Why wouldn't I?" He chuckled, I just half smiled as I paced my footsteps towards Ashton's room.

Ashton was the oldest here and theoretically the only child to still be here since birth, so, he knew all the staff and would also take turns in working at the desk with Michael.

I, on the other hand, preferred to keep a low profile. We, yet again, raced to his room, my board almost knocking some of the small ordainments off the table that ware placed in the hallway.

I quickly reached into my room and grabbed my phone and a pair of headphones. Then we climbed into his dorm. I threw the board and headed for the door one more time, he soon followed as we made our way towards the dining room.

"Michael looked a little bit too dressed up for tea, didn't he?" I asked with a slight giggle.

"Maybe there's a girl involved."Ashton laughed as he pushed open the double door.

We were surrounded by the disgusting smell of home made gravy and crowds of people. I took my usual seat next to Ashton in the corner of the room, we sat with people of similar ages but I only spoke to a few of them.

I looked down the table;Ashton, James and Michael were sat chatting amongst themselves. Ashton leaned over to greet someone, his long arms stretched past Michael. I watched as the small hand shook his back.

I darted my eyes back to my iPod which lay on the grey table. I gripped one of my headphones and fitted it into my ear, which I then repeated for the other.

The music drowned out the sound around me.

I didn't mean to be unsociable but the boys knew that now. I didn't like to talk to crowds of people, which is was why I liked being alone, every time we had dinner in the dining room I'd listen to music.

I watched as the nameless figures moved ahead of me. I'm lonely, but the weird thing is I liked it.

"Luke?" Ashton's face appeared besides me, he tugged gently at my headphones, I obeyed taking one side out." You coming out tomorrow?"

I hesitated. "Yeah."

I grabbed the earphone piece and slid it into my ear again as a hand patted my shoulder. I looked to find Ashton smiling at me, my body warmed, I smiled back. The old ladies walked towards our table with the plates, I looked up at the grumpy face as she, Polly, almost threw the plate full of sticky mash in front of me.

"Ew" I contemplated. "Ashton I'm going to skip dinner today."

My stomach turned as it laid eyes on the mushed up food, my hand grabbed the hood to my jacket pulling the fabric across my hat just far enough to cover my eyes.

I let my feet lead out of the cold room and onto the cream carpet of the hallways.

I walked to the beat of my music, I listened to the guitar riffs and drum beat as I mimicked the words. This was by far my favourite all time low song.

My body jumped as a figure appeared next to me, I ripped one of the earpieces out of my ears.

"Shit Ashton don't scare me like that." He laughed at my reaction.

"What are you doing here?"I asked.

"Well I figured you might get lonely and I've just ordered a pizza so you my friend are helping me eat it." I smiled at him, I couldn't help it, it's like he knew how to make me happy all of the time.

I wouldn't of been able to get through this shit hole without Ashton. I hope he realises how much he's helped me. Fuck, I sound like a girl. I laughed and nudged him.

"You're a fucking weirdo you know that?" We both filled the boring halls with joyful laughter.

"And proud." He added. "What you listening to?"

He watched me whiles I wrapped the wires around my iPod. Pausing the melody that played in the headphones.

"Six feet under the stars." He tutted.

Ashton and I had many similarities but we can never seem to agree on music taste, he tells me that I need to listen to more of a range of music, instead of the typical rock I usually put on.

We pushed open his dark door.

"Luke can we go to your room, my heatings not working well here and let's be honest well probably be up all night playing xbox" I nodded.

"As long as you don't moan about me kicking your ass on guitar hero." He punched my arm.

"Hey you may be taller than me but I can kick your ass." I just agreed with him.

"Keep thinking that short ass." I snickered besides him.

Ashton's long arms grabbed his money and some spare clothes before we headed for my room.
