Stop Drinking

Sounds simple doesn't it.  But you see,  a person who is a slave to the bottle doesn't know how to just STOP!

I MEAN,  WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Beulah came home from being with  Claire and would still cook for Lenny but Lenny now didn't even want to eat.

I noticed that he was getting skinnier than he was because he hardly ever ate now.

Confronting Lenny seemed like talking to the wall because he always had the same answer.  I only had 1 drink too many Beulah.  I'm okay!

Beulah would try to invite Lenny to go to the hospital and get a check up.  He would always say for what?  When he was okay.

Beulah then tried inviting Lenny to church with she and Claire on Sunday's but Lenny didn't seem interested.  He said that Sunday was his rest day.  Beulah would say well if it is your rest day then why don't you stay away from that juke joint and rest.

You keep on going out and coming home drunk.  You do take Sunday's off from work,  but you don't take Sunday's off from drinking.  Your body needs a break Lenny.  It can't be healthy if you never give that alcohol a break.

Beulah would just go to her room and pull out her bible and just read it until sometimes she had fallen asleep reading it.

Lord please help Lenny to see that he has a drinking problem.  Sure he provides for us but I want him to spend more time with me without all of that alcohol.

His friend Marcus doesn't have a wife and lives alone. Maybe he can handle his drinking better than Lenny can.

Lord help my husband to see the error of his ways.  He needs a rude awakening so that he can see that what he is doing is so wrong to himself as well as our marriage.

Help him Lord.  Help me.
Why can't my husband seemed that he has a problem with alcohol.

His father and mother seem to have drinking problems as well.  They are now retired and are just lying around and are barely coherent.

They are just existing instead of living.  They just enjoy themselves with their friends,  family and alcohol.  Seems like a generational thing.  Everyone seems to be used to it.

They don't see any problem with drinking or they wouldn't of gave him Any as a child.  It was almost like a reward for working hard in the fields.  You got to drink some moonshine.  How could they not know that it was bad for your health?

Maybe back in that time,  they didn't think of health,  but rather survival from working hard by having a way of escape if only just temporary.

They never even knew that all along that they were a slave to the bottle and was teaching Lenny a repeated cycle.  No wonder they didn't seem concerned when I would write them and tell them about his problem.

They would just say.  Oh he is just having fun after work like he was taught. Ain't nothing wrong with a little booze.  At least he ain't cheating on you.  He just down at the juke joint drinking and listening to good music and watching Marcus play that harmonica.

He is okay Beulah.  Just enjoy yourself with your friend Claire that you said that met.

So that is what Beulah mainly did in her spare time.  Attend church with Claire.  Take little rides with the church to visit other congregations and just enjoy Claire and come home and fix dinner and hope that Lenny was in the mood to eat for his strength because he was now looking like he was wasting away. Little by little and he didn't even notice it!
