I race through the forest with my bow and arrow in hand. I can hear the crunch of the sticks and leaves being crushed by my attacker. The Denal wolf howls his god awful howl. It pierces through the night making the silence disappear. I run for my life. The life I want to have. Only five years ago I was a huntress in training, and now I’m no longer the hunter but the hunted.

The wolf’s breathing is getting heavier and heavier. My only chance to survive this attack is if I end it right here, right now. I leaped into a nearby tree and set my arrow into my bow. I take my aim and…. Miss. Shoot! The wolf is startled and leaves though. That is not the way I wanted this to end but it is better than being mauled to death by the wolf. I wait in the tree for the rest of the night just in case he is still waiting for me in a bush. At the sign of the sun he will have to go back to his cave because if he is touched by a single ray he will be burned to death. The sun comes soon, thankfully because I think he would he would have lost his patience and tried to get me.

I walk through the forest with unease and always had my bow ready. There are other things I need to be ready for if they attack. The wolf is not the only thing that can kill me that lives in this forest. The forest of Denal are always dangerous and you must always be prepared. One wrong move I will be eaten by something and never see the light of day again. The forest has become my home, besides my grandmother’s cottage. Granny. I miss her so much. I can’t believe it has been three years since that horrible day. The day I betrayed her and let her down. It’s my fault and always will be, no matter what Mom says. A single tear runs down my dirty face. I wiped furiously at the tear.  No fear. No sadness. I am emotionless. That is what I have been taught by the hunters and the huntresses that trained me to be who I am today. It helps the hunt get easier.

I can see the cottage coming into sight. The only home have known since I’ve come to Denal from Earth. Earth was green and full of life but now it is a dying planet with no life and no green. It is full of smog in the atmosphere and it is very hard to breath. Here on Denal it is like earths early days in human time. Green, fresh, the sky is blue, and there is life.

I enter the cottage and throw my things onto the floor and walk to my bed room then… Wham! On the floor, flat on my face. What was that!?

I quickly I roll to my bow and arrow. I crouch into a position that gives me an advantage. My arrow in its notch, ready to pierce someone or something. I can see nothing. There is no one in the door way. No one ready to attack. I slowly get up never letting my guard down. I slowly walk to the doorway, ready. I creep into the room and find nothing. Then I walk to my cabinet. Open the door and find a man with his hands up. Brown hair and blue eyes. Not bad. Looks like a city man.

“What are you doing?!” I yell at him, “Creep get out!”

“Why? Why must I leave such a lovely home?” He says and climbs out of the cabinet as if I don’t have an arrow to his head. “Now darling put that down before you hurt yourself….”

“The only person that will be getting hurt is you if you don’t get out of my house. Now!” I say with more fury. I really don’t want to deal with him right now. Even if he is cute.

“Oh, a brave one are you? Worried that I will steal something of yours?” He walks over to a chair and sits down calmly. Can this man take a hint? “Now tell me. Who are you?”

“I think I should be the one that gets to ask the questions since I am the one that has the weapon and you are the one that has none.”

“How do you know if I don’t have one? I could have it under my shirt.” He says slyly.

“Because if you did you would have taken it out to try to attack me and get away without me seeing you. Trust me, I know the ways of being a thief. Now let me ask the questions. Who are you and what are you doing in my house?” I say. God he is making me so mad. I probably should have shot him right when I saw him so I would not have to go through all of this trouble.
