He was beautiful, in a way that everyone knew. It wasn't obvious, but everyone he came across wanted to find the beauty he held.
I was no exception. I studied him in colors, not knowing his name. When I figured out the mood he was in by the way he acted, i painted him with a color.
It was the middle of fall and I had seen him in the park, he was walking his dog and he held a smile the whole time I observed him. I was never too close to him, but his atmosphere felt calming, quiet. He waved and he smiled at everyone who passed by. As I sat in the park and he smiled at me I saw every shadow in my soul being lit. I smiled back and decided he was like the sun. Today, he is yellow.
It was the beginning of winter break and as I waited for the bus right outside of my campus I saw him speaking to one of his friends. He had a book in his hand and his glasses were pushed up to the top of his head. He laughed and it was the sweetest sound I'd ever heard. I looked at him and he looked so cool. The sky was grey but he was not. I looked at him and I felt happy, relieved. Today, he was purple.
It was the end of march and I was stopped at a corner when I saw him, he ran his hands through his hair as he stood in front of another woman and an open door. She was crying and he was on the verge, he seemed to have not want to let it out though. Another man walked out and my colorless man looked distraught. The woman began to say something, from the tone of her voice she sounded desperate, but he turned out of the doorway and walked away. He lifted his head, his hand running through his hair. He smiled when he saw me, briefly, before walking a different direction. His head hung low and his hands pulled at his grown out brunette hair. There was no doubt. Today, he was red.
It was the beginning of summer. It was only seventy four degrees. I was now standing next to my friend, Brian, and he was talking about his new music class. I looked up to catch my colors looking at me - except, he wasn't. He was looking at Brian, with distaste I think it was. My heart pounded as he looked to me, his expression shifting drastically, a smile gracing his features. I returned it while looking back at Brian, my colors in my peripheral vision, seeing his distaste return. Today, he was green.
Sorry. It was eighty three degrees outside and the sun was beating everyone down as they rushed to find any shade they could. He was no exception. He ran toward me as I walked to the library I usually found myself in during hot days, there was an air conditioner and reading gave me no concept of time, proving true to me when I looked up hours later to see the sun gone. He rushed into me and I saw him but we had collided too quickly for me to move. Sorry was the first word he ever spoke to me. I replayed the word in my head as I became fascinated with the color of worry glistening in his eyes. He looked down smiling at me. I smiled back.
"Going into the library, too?"
I nodded.
"Let me get that for you."
He opened the door and led me into the library with his hand on my back, guiding me. At that moment all of his colors blended together. The definite color was something new and it was nameless, like him, but I decided it was my favorite color.
"I see you all the time." I smiled before I felt my face heating up, a sure pink showing on my face, "Would ya look at that, you're pink today."
I looked up at him shocked. "What did you just say?"
He smiled again, laughing a little. "Usually you're blue, you know? Calm, peaceful. Maybe even purple. You're pink today." He shrugged after his explanation, turning a shade I assumed was similar to mine.
"I guess you are, too."
