Walking alone

Late for class

My footsteps became heavy as a walk through the unbearably narrow hallway of my school, my uniform itching in frustration as I walk to my first period, Math.

I stop at Miss Clark's classroom, walking in without a care in the world, I wouldn't care if I interrupted the lesson.
"Cassina Willems! Why are you late and why did you interrupted my lesson? " Snapped Miss Clark.

"Ever heard of sleeping in? " I said back, blinking.

"Detention after school."
Miss Clark sneered looking back at the white board, her glasses brimmed her nose as she continued the lesson.

I walked across the blankly painted room to my desk at the back, I hated math class, not only because math sucks, because I sit beside Ruby Bradley and Lily Parker. I think there's something more going on between them, other than being best friends.

"Sup hothead."
I sneered at Ruby as I took my seat beside her.

"Cass- were you born on a highway? Because that's where accidents happen." Ruby glanced at me, her eyes burning with hostility.

"Funny, says the adopted." I said, smirking.

"OH SHUT UP! " Ruby suddenly stood up from her table, her fists out like she was going to punch me.

Miss Clark, along with everyone in the room looked astonished, Ruby had never been that angry, all I had pointed out that Ruby was in foster care. Lapis pulled Ruby back down into her seat.
"Calm down! " she whispered.

"Ruby- do you want to join Cassina in detention? " Miss Clark asked.

"No, not really." Ruby said.

"Well it's a bad day for you then." Miss Clark said, looking back to the board.

I sneered, scoffing at the idea of being in the same room alone with Ruby for an hour after school.

The ear-piercing bell rang as the students around me grabbed heir bags and left the class.
When Ruby walked past me, she pushed me slightly and walked down some stairs. I growled under my breath as I walked into the ocean of students that flooded the hallway.
