Rachel stands next to the bed of Luke Hemmings. She carefully watches him, making sure nothing is wrong. But all that runs through her mind is what could be happening on Jade’s end. There were about five staff members in the room, and a doctor standing off to the side supervising the patient as well. Rachel greets him with a hesitant smile.

“Hi. Doctor Manket sent me here,” she says, fiddling with her fingers.

“Right! I’m doctor Barnes. I’m assuming you’re Marie Snow?” She nodded as he went on, “as of right now, you aren’t needed. I’m not sure whether he is even going to make it through the next five minutes. The best advice I have is to stay here and wait.”

All she could do was nod as he walked away. Stay here and wait, she repeated in her mind. Doesn’t he realize the weight of those simple words? Rachel feels pressure whether it's waiting for Luke to gain consciousness, or waiting for him to die. It tugged at the heartstrings a bit. A memory of her brother being shot in front of her, runs through her mind. That day still haunts her, because all she could do was put pressure on his wounds, and wait for the ambulance to come. All she did was wait.

A nurse came up, and started to clean him up. Rachel looked at his wounds. Her stomach dropped to the floor as she examined him further. He was covered in blood. Dried blood stained his striped shirt. He was practically drenched in the dark liquid. Rachel started to wonder if all of it belonged to him. There were massive rips, and tears in his shirt.

His blond hair was matted down a bit from the blood coming from a slight cut along his hairline. His eyes were currently shut, her curiosity made her want him to wake up just so she could see his eyes.

No one moved as they started to hear the flatline of the heart monitor. Rachel immediately took action. She started up the defibrillator. Finally, a couple nurses came to their senses, and rushed over to help. They quickly cut on his shirt and poured the Signagel onto his exposed chest.

“Clear,” She yells, attempting to restart his heart. After two minutes of trying, doctor Barnes unplugged the machine. Rachel holds the defibrillator in her hands as everyone looks at the clock.

Suddenly, the heart monitor starts to beep once again. Everyone looks around surprised, and relieved. They check for anything new. But there was nothing new. He still laid there limp, and motionless with his eyes shut. Rachel sighs. At least he's alive, she thinks to herself.

Jade’s hands grab each of the needed tools to help save her patient. She's not the one doing the surgery, but she's helping. That's all she could really do. She could feel how sweaty her hands were under the blue gloves. It's hot with everyone in there. Her heart pounds in her chest. When finally faced with one of the most dangerous men in America, she has to save his life.

For months, Rachel and Jade have spent their energy on this case. They've spent time trying to catch the people who cause trouble in the streets. She's angry and relieved all at the same time. No one should die without someone trying to save them.

“Can you pass me the knife?” She snaps out of her thoughts just to do what she's told.

Rachel watched a couple nurses high-five one another. Others wiped the sweat from their foreheads. He pulled through. This man would live to see another day all because of their actions. Rachel regarded the fact that he's in a gang. She forgot how dangerous he can be. All she could think about was how she saved a life.

“Marie?” She jumped at the sound of her code name falling from the doctor’s lips. She turned away from the patient, Luke, to pay attention to doctor Barnes.
