Chapter 2:
*Doctor's POV*
I had obviously mis-piloted the TARDIS again. The rain was a dead giveaway. I had been trying to get to this city in the middle of a desert. It was also probably a few hundred years into the future, judging by the cars and buildings here.
Usually when the TARDIS landed this far off target, something important was about to happen. Nothing around here seemed out-of-the-ordinary. The shops were lit, cars drove by on their way to work, people were living their ordinary, human lives. Maybe the TARDIS malfunctioned again. I started making my way back, still looking around for signs of trouble. There were none. The TARDIS doors were unlocked, which was unusual because they almost always locked behind me when I left. Something wasn't right.
"Hello?" I called, "There's not someone in here is there?" A girl that looked about 20 years old walked through one of the doorways. She had black hair pulled back into ponytail and was awfully short. "Oh. Uh, how did you-um-get in here exactly?" I asked. "Oh!" she said, "Is this your police box... that breaks physics? I was just lost. Yeah, lost. Um, I should probably be leaving." She tried to hurry out, but I stepped in front of her. "Wait, you still haven't explained how you got in here. I keep those doors locked when I'm not here," I gestured to the whole room, "and for obvious reasons."
She was stammering, "Look, I- I'm sorry. The doors weren't locked when I got here and I was just curious. I'll leave." Obviously, she was afraid. She'd just walked into a box that broke physics and looked like a spaceship only to be confronted by a stranger. She had every right to be afraid. "Look, I'm not angry. I'm just curious, those doors don't open for just anyone you know. What is your name?" I asked calmly. "Quinn. Quinn Smith." she said. She was considerably calmer now.
"I suppose I should explain," I said, "but I want to hear what your theory about all this," I gestured to the whole room again, "is first." I didn't expect her to even come close to the right answer. She was silent for a moment, "It's a spaceship that's bigger on the inside, and you are... a time traveller from the future? One thing I don't understand though, why a "Police Public Call Box? If it's for camouflage, then you're doing a terrible job."
"Oi! I like the police box look! Anyway, it used to be for camouflage and then it broke. I suppose I just don't want to fix it. You had the spaceship part right although technically it's a different dimension but for the sake of simplicity, yes, it's bigger on the inside. I love that bit. And as for me, yes I'm a time traveller, maybe from the future. Depends on what year it is. So? What do you think?" I said. Quinn smiled. "So I've told you my name. What is yours?" she said. "It's the Doctor. Just the Doctor."
