ELENA

I was getting weaker by the second, it didn't take a doctor to tell. I struggle to speak, to keep my eyes open even. The pain is unbelievable, the reoccurring memories coming in and out. I'm dying and there is no way around it now. Emmett tries to show that it doesn't bother him but he can't hide it anymore. Not with me the way I am.

"Elena, you need to stop working so much." John says taking the towel from my hands.

"I'm fine. I'm not going to just sit around and do absolutely nothing for the next two months." I state leaning against the table.

"I didn't say that, I said stop working so much." He retorts.

"Fine, but don't expect me to only do the dishes and sweep. I'll take it easy, which I have been, but I'm not going to stop working." I sigh.

"Okay, just be careful." He says before kissing my forehead.

"I will, but you need to quit worrying so much." I state placing a hand on my stomach.

"You know I can't." He mutters placing his hands on either side of my stomach.

"John, I love you." I smile.

"I love you." He smiles. We kiss briefly before he kisses the baby. "I have to get back to work. You go relax."

A single tear slides down my cheek. I was seven months pregnant at the time. We had been married for about a year. Emmett lived with us to help out with everything. Mom had been dead for about eighteen months. We were somewhere around fifteen, they said we were too young to know what love is. They were so wrong.

"Mommy?" Sabe whispers looking up at me.

"Yes dear?" I crouch down in front of her.

"When are daddy and uncle Emmett coming home?" She asks. I pick her up and carry her to the couch.

"I don't know sweetie, but they'll be home soon." I reply running my finger through her hair.

"Will you braid my hair pretty please?" She smiles.

"Of course." I smile at her and grab the brush. I slowly brush her dark hair. I braid her hair and tie it off. She leans her head against my chest and stays silent. The door opens and she runs toward it. I get up and walk over.

"It's about damn time." I kiss Emmett on the cheek and we hug.

"We got caught up." He says.

"Well you took too long." Sabe states. I slightly laugh before standing in front of John. Emmett picks her up and John's arms wrap around me. We kiss then he rests his head against mine.

"I managed to get Emmett and I a day off." He says.

"Really?" I pipe.

"Yeah, I figured we could leave Emmett with Sabe and you and I could go out."

"I'm surprised you remembered." I smirk.

"Why wouldn't I remember? It was one of the best days of my life." He gently runs his hand down my arm.

"Don't kiss that's gross!" Sabe exclaims squirming in Emmett's arms. We all laugh...

Sabe was around three at the time. John and I were getting ready to celebrate four years of marriage. We made it six before Emmett and I were turned, Sabe was only five. That's about when Dad walked out on Emmett and I.

"You two take good care of each other, okay?" Dad says squatting to our level.

"We will daddy." Emmett and I say simultaneously.

"Where are you going?" I ask.

"Well, sweetie, for now- well I'm not sure." He replies.

"Will you come visit us?" My twin pipes.

"I'm not sure kiddo." He shakes his head. "Just promise me you two will take care of each other always and forever." We nod.

"We promise, always and forever."

"I'll see you guys soon. I love you."

We never saw him again. Emmett and I still haven't broken our promise to him. We will keep it, always and forever.
