Shawn:

Our baby needed to stay in the care unit because she was born too early.

But Maya is doing good so far. She's still asleep from after the surgery and the medication they gave her. But it's better for her to get some rest, rather than being awake and painful.

I sat beside her bed in the chair, and I must have fallen asleep because I woke up from the feeling of someone taking my hand.

My eyes slowly flutter open.

"Hey." I heard the soft and weak whisper of my love and I looked to see her rolled on her side, our hands intertwined. "Hey. How are you?" I said, my voice still raspy because I just woke up.

"I'm okay. It hurts though." She said and I stood up as she rolled onto her back again, squinting her eyes from the pain. "May I?" I asked and she nodded.

I lifted up the blanket and slowly raised her shirt to see the scar on her stomach. "Is it bad?" She asked but I shook my head. "It's not that big though. Looks like it'll heal quickly." I said and heard her sighing as I pulled her shirt down and covered her up with the blanket again.

"I'm ugly now. I'm all grown out, I have a child, I'm married. I feel like a proper adult." She chuckled and I shook my head. "Hey, you're not ugly. Don't ever say that again. And no, we'll start to feel like adults the moment our little girl goes to school." I laughed and she smiled as I crawled in next to her under the blanket.

"What should we name her?" I asked and she smiled. "You can pick the name. I know you have one in mind." She chuckled sweetly and I blushed.

"Well I was thinking-" but then she added along and we said it in sync. "Skyler." We said in unison and she laughed. "You said that at a Q&A one day." She said and I pecked her lips.

She's the best.

"Mr. And Mrs. Mendes. Would you like to see your new baby girl?" The doctor asked as he walked in. We nodded in excitement and as I wanted to get up, I saw them pushing her into the room, still in the birth box.

"She's beautiful." Maya said as she pushed herself up. "Can we hold her?" I asked but he shook his head. "She needs to stay in the oxygen box for at least three more days before she's capable of breathing outside. Her lungs are still developing to the fullest but she's actually really stable. And a lot of work for the nurses. A bundle of joy. Congratulations." He said and we shook his hand.

As he left the room I got up and helped Maya sit up as well.

"Hi baby." Maya said as she stood up, looking down at our little girl. I saw the tear rolling down her cheek and I wrapped my arm around her waist. "She has your lips though." She said looking at me and I lauhed. "That's okay. I love that she has your eyes." I said as she started kicking around in the box, already smiling.

"She's a joy." Maya laughed and she pressed her finger through the small opening on the side. Immediately Skyler took her finger in her small little hand, the smile on her little face growing within seconds as a giggle left her lips.

"Hello my baby girl." I whispered as I crouched down next to the case.

She was still looking up at her mother but then her eyes layed on mine.

Withing that second I knew, I'll love this girl of mine unconditionally, I'll give her the life she dreams of having, the places she wishes to see. I'll love her with all my heart and I'll protect her with all my might.

She's mine.
My baby girl.

"Aah I can't wait to hold her." I said and felt Maya's hand roaming through my head. I stood up and crashed my lips to hers.

We did it.

🌸Maya:

When Doctor Reece brought Skyler into the room for us I fell inlove. Even though I haven't held her yet.

As the night came I fell asleep, but not entirely because the painkillers had worn off and now it's almost unbearable.

"Hey baby girl." I heard a whisper and I slowly opened my eyes to find Shawn crouched down infront of Skyler. She wasn't asleep as well, a real busy baby if you ask me.

Constantly smiling and laughing.

"You're so beautiful, just like your mother. I can't wait to hold you in my arms and watch you fall asleep on your mother's chest. You're a miracle Skyler, my love, and I love you." He said, and I saw her taking his finger in her small hand, smiling at him as they locked eyes.

I have the most amazing family.

"Oh, hey darling. Whya re you awake, you should be sleeing." He whispered as he walked up to me. "Shawn I want to go home." I said weakly to him as he sat down beside me, taking my hand in his and pecking my forehead.

"Just two more days love. Then you can go home, and we can take our litte girl with us." He smiled and I looked back down at her.

We got lucky with such a beautiful girl. And I love how many stunning features she has of him.

She'll be the most beautiful when she grows up.

Our little girl.
