My family and I were on our way home from our family trip. A road trip from Arizona to Washington, so much fun with 5 people packed in a small car. Every teenager's dream. No room to move around. All of our bags are packed in the back and practically falling over onto us in the middle row. I swear if my brother keeps breathing so loud I will break his god damn nose off!
"Okay get off of my fucking side of the seat!"
"Do you not see the clear line that divides us! Or do you need glasses? I am on MY side. It's you that's not."
"I swear to god if you guys don't stop arguing I'm going to push you out of the car door."
"Oh shut up." My brother and I slap the other on the arm for trying to intervene in our argument.
"All right we're going to make a pit stop and stretch out legs for a little while and get food." And that is how we ended up here in San Francisco, California.
Shoving each other out of the car we all put some much-needed distance between us. The tension was so high it was like one wrong move and we would all go MMA on each other. "Alright, girls do you want to walk around and look at the shops while your brother's and I look for food or-"
"Hey! No fair why do they get to go look through the stores? What if I wanted to go look around. Is it because they're girls?
"Shut the fuck up. No one wants to hear your gender equality only matters when it has to do with me." I could feel his glair in the side of my head as I stand over 6 feet away from him.
"No one asked for your opinion, Maria."
"And no one asked for yours yet here we are talking about it." Just as my brother jumped towards me my dad reached out and snatched him. Effectively throwing the teenager that was a temper tantrum over his shoulder and walking towards the bathroom areas. My mother rolled her eye's muttering something about never taking us out in public again before grabbing my hand and bringing us towards a food stand to grab something to eat before getting back on the road.
"You and your brother need to get along." I rolled my eye's yanking my hand from hers.
"We will when he starts acting his age." Side eyeing me she talks in a taunting tone.
"And you think you're any better than him?" Scoffing we took a step forward in the line for a taco truck. "Hey why don't you go and find us somewhere to sit down and eat while I wait for the food"
"Whatever." Grabbing out my phone I walked out into the crowd of people. At this point, I could care less about a table. I just need to be alone. Pulling out my headphones I turned on some music and walked around the area.
After a few minutes, the hair on the back of my neck stood at attention, and an uneasy feeling made its way to my stomach. Taking out my headphones I looked around straightening my posture. Sure there are some sketchy-looking things around me but this is a busy place and city.
Something walked up behind me and touched my shoulder. As if it was delicate and would break by a feather. "AHH," I kicked back thinking it was just my brother trying to scare me. But then something covered my mouth as I tried to turn around to see who it was. The grip just tightened. Okay, Maria just hold your breath. Do not breathe in. No matter how much you really want to. A punch to my stomach caused me to take a sharp inhale. God damn it. My head starts to spin around as the light starts to fade into dark. I want to shout out for my mom, dad, brothers but my voice has disappeared and my body is starting to go limp. Is this really happening? Is this some sort of joke?
How is no one seeing this?
"Hel-"
