Stuffing the pillow in my face, I felt anxious. I felt something was wrong.
Sighing in exasperation I rolled out if bed and tip-toed to the door. When I just about opened it? I remembered my sister never returned from the store. My heart started pounding, adrenaline coursing through my veins. I was terrified of the dark, so I didn't want to go out there but something was going on. I didn't know what to so, until I saw my pink IPhone sitting on my night table. I grabbed it and checked to see if I had any messages. Then I took action.
"911, how may I please help you?"
The calm, controlled operators voice made me relax a bit.
"I, uh, my sister I mean, went to the store and didn't come back and I'm all alone and nervous. My parents are out of town."
"Alright, try calming down. Everything will be alright. Where are you? We are sending them on their way."
Quickly I told her my address. I shivered thinking about what was happening and when I hung up, I thought how happy I was a couple of hours ago.
Dancing, drinking, all that. It was a typical party for most but not for me. My crush Aidan finally noticed me. We danced and we talked and talked, it was so fun. Then when he escorted me home he pecked me on the cheek! I smile at the though of his soft, warm lips on mine.
Then I suddenly remembered where I was and what was going on. I grew somber again thinking.
My parents were out of town, and my older sister May was supposed to be babysitting me but she left to the store ages ago. When I came home and around ten-ish, I don't even remember her being here. Suddenly? I'm scared again. Make that terrified, chilled the bone.
I swallowed, and slowly walked to the door, gripping my phone tightly. Opening the door, and cringing at the loud noise, I stepped out. Everything seemed fine, and then a wave of nausea hit me. There was this stench, it was horrible, filling the entire house with it.
It was coming from my sisters room. Looking at her door I swallowed my fear and opened it. In it, was a sight that shocked me out of my skin.
Everything was knocked over. Her pet hamster had his guts ripped open, blood everywhere. I screamed, and then covered my mouth, whoever did this could still be in the house! I whimpered at the sight of Hamlet, the hamster that she adored. Then I thought of May. Where she was. And why she didn't return after she said she was going to the store to pick up some milk. She let me go to the party of course, she dropped me off then headed to the store, so maybe she returned after. But when I came home I was so tipsy and happy I didn't even notice. I paced around in her room taking in all the details. Someone obviously was searching for something, but what? May was the nicest, sweetest sister she could be. Already a freshman at Columbia, she was destined for greatness. Who would be so cruel-hearted to want to harm her?
*pound, pound.*
My heart raced but then I remembered it was the police. Briskly walking to the door I opened it, facing two officers, a blonde woman, and a red-headed man.
"Hello young lady, what is the issue?"
The woman said.
I decided to name her sour-face, because she looked like she was sucking on a lemon. I instantly didn't like her.
"Someone broke in, and only messed around in my sisters room."
"And where is your sister now?"
Asked the red-head.
"I-I don't know sir."
