The world did not end in a bang, or a whisper, but rather, one scream at a time. Kalani ran through a debris ridden town. The air smelled of smoke and death. Her dark brown hair fell around her shoulders and she had a torn jean jacket with a Twenty-One Pilots shirt underneath. Kals combat boots made a hallow noise everytime she set foot on the ground. This was her world, and it sucked. She slowed down and spotted a run down gas station. "Come on, be something good for once." Kalani muttered as she walked towards the gas station. Once she got to one of the many broken windows on she pointed her pistol into the store and gasped before hiding around the corner. Kal silently hoped she didn't see what she thought she saw.  All of a sudden she heard a low growling sound coming from behind her. She turned around and a double headed cougar was about to pounce. She didn't have time to react before it jumped up and tackled her to the ground. She yelped in surprise and took her dagger out trying to keep its large teeth away from her. Just as she was about to give up and welcome her death with open arms, a huge bang filled the air and the doulble headed cougar went limp. Kalani pushed the cougar off of her and stood up. She looked around to see where the shot came from and didn't see anyone. Then out of nowhere she heard someone ask, "Kalani?" She looked up and saw a boy walk up to her holding a shot gun. Her face went from joy to utter discust.

"Sawyer." She growled glareing at him. He frowned and took a step towards her. She immediately raised her pistol, pointing it at his chest. Sawyer immediately backed up.

"Kal, just lower your gun..." He said slowly. Kalani stared at him for a moment before slowly lowering her pistol. He sighed in relief and looked at her.

"Is that how you greet an old friend?" He asked her. Kalani glared at him.

"I am not  your friend." She growled before slightly turning to go into the gas station, but not fully turning around so she could keep an eye on Sawyer. He just laughed coldly and followed her into the store.

"So what brings you here?" He asked. Kalani stopped and turned around looking at him with an expression like, 'are you kidding me right now?'

"Actually Sawyer, you brought me here." She said bluntly as she started going through the shelves looking for food and hopefully clean water. He leaned against the shelf and crossed his arms looking at her.

"Your still mad at me about that?! Kal, that was like seven months ago!" He said. Kal spun around and glared at him.

"You turned in my parents. Their dead now because of you." She said in a dangerous tone. Sawyer looked at her hurt.

"Kal, I didn't mea-" She stopped him by pointing her gun at his chest.

"Its too late to be sorry Payne" She growled. He didn't move and just looked down at her knowing she would never shoot him. Kalani lowered her gun and went through half smoldered boxes of food before finding a can of peaches and a half empty water bottle. "Score" she said before putting them in her bag. She looked at him and started walking out of the gas station, heading off towards the edge of town. Sawyer followed watching their surrounding carefully. "Why aren't you at your little safe haven with your dad?" Kal asked. He didn't answer for a long time and the only sound was their feet hitting the debris covered pavement and the eerie wind flowing through the empty and falling apart skyscrapers.

"Because I'm here to get something." He said. As Kalani wondered what that something was she felt a sharp pain hit the back of her head and her world tumbled into darkness.
