Sugar sipped her tea. She was watching Spiderman, with her feet up on the coffee table. The phone was ringing. She paused the movie, picked up the phone cautiously, and saw the caller ID; SuperHQ. She pressed the talk button.
"Hello, Glide here,"
"Glide, are you watching the news?"
"No, why?" She picked up the remote and flipped to the news. Captain Hammer, her annoying Co-hero's face filled the screen, "Oh, that's why."
"Hammer is out of commission right now. We need you to temporarily take over the entire city's protection. Captain Hammer's in therapy. Pathetic really. So can you do it?"
"Yes. I can," the tv announced... for the millionth time that week, that Penny, a girl Sugar often saw at the laundromat, was dead. Turns out Dr. Horrible was responcible, "Well that's unexpected," Sugar mumbled so the HQ representative couldn't hear.
"Listen, if Hammer shows up, let him deal with the villain. We'd like him back on the job as soon as possible."
"Will do, thanks."
"And Glide, keep an eye out for Dr. Horrible. We've upped his threat level to 5 because of his attack on Hammer."
"Alright,"
"Good luck," the phone clicked.
Good thing Sugar was a full time hero.
An alarm sounded on her phone: Laundry Day. Right, she had totally forgotten it was Saturday. She hurried to grab her laundry basket, laundry soap and dryer balls. She hoisted her clothes into the basket and ran out the front door. She lived in a little 2 story house all on her own. Superheroing was a good buisness to be in so long as you were hired by SuperHQ. Sugar walked down the street, and turned into the laundromat. It was unusually empty. Only one dryer machine was running. The only figure there was a man with his red hoodie pulled all the way up. He turned around as the door opened and Sugar could see that it was Billy. He didn't smile like he usually did but Sugar didn't expect him too. She'd seen him share frozen yogurt with Penny before and in Sugar's opinion, anyone who you shared food with on a regular basis is fairly close to you. She noticed the two full Froyo containers beside Billy.
"Hey Billy, um, how are you doing?" Sugar looked down at her feet, desperate not to make eye contact. She shoveled her clothes into the nearest washing machine.
"Oh, hey Sugar," it was clear he was making an effort to seem happier than he was. He chuckled half-heartedly, "Y'know I bought two frozen yogurts almost expecting her to walk through that door like everything was alright."
"I'm so sorry Billy. I... I can't imagine how you must be feeling," Sugar glanced towards his face. He smiled sadly.
"Well hey, don't let me make you feel gloomy. I should get my mind off of it anyways. Uh, here. Do you like frozen yogurt?" He held up the slightly melted dessert.
"Yeah I do. Thank you," Sugar took the yogurt from Billy.
"Well enough about me," Billy pulled his hood down, "What's up with you?"
"Well," Sugar thought about how she could word this and get it off her chest, "My partner," wait, that sounded like she was in a relationship or something, "at work, is on a sort of, medical leave and I have to take over all our work."
"Wow. That really sucks," Billy said.
"Yeah, I just found out today. Something about needing counceling," Sugar shook her head and roled her eyes, "he's such a drama queen... Billy? Are you ok?"
Billy was glaring out the window. Sugar turned around to see none other than Captain Hammer standing at the door, and it appeared that he was contemplating entering.
