John holds his hands up to tell Brie to wait. He stares out from the tree they are kneeling in. Brie knew what he was doing. She stared at his hand. Five, five, and then he twirled his index finger in the air. That meant that there were 20 guards all around the castle. John laid his hand out flat then started counting again. Four all around. Brie looked out. Just as he said, there were 10 guards spread around the castle and four guarding the doors. Brie moved to beside John.
“How do we know which door?” Brie whispered. John was silent.
“We will figure that out soon,” he answered. Then he jumped.
Brie followed after him. She knew what to do. She pulled out her arrow as the guards came to attack. Brie knew well enough to know that there was an ambush waiting, so she started picking the guards off. She glanced over at John who was fighting with his swords and martial arts. She always awed at his fighting style. Brie saw movement in the woods and quickly went back to fighting. Eventually they got too much for her arrows, so she pulled out her sword and started slicing nearly the same style as John. She was his student after all. Brie kept fighting as she faced towards John’s direction a few yards back. Every once in a while, Brie would glance over at him. At one time she saw a guard sneak up behind John. Before she could even call out, he flipped the guard over his shoulder, throwing him into another guard’s sword. That is the reason why she always awed at John. He had unimaginable speed and always seemed to know what was going on behind him even though he didn’t see directly.
After killing off all the guards, Brie and John regrouped behind a tree.
“It seems to me they aren’t allowed to move no matter what,” John said quietly. Brie knew he was talking about the guards at the doors. “Arthur probably believes they can hold us off. I believe otherwise.”
“But which door?” Again John was silent. Brie studied him. His palm was flat on the tree trunk and his eyes were closed. Perhaps he was meditating or something. John opened his eyes and turned to Brie.
“From now on, listen to whatever I tell you. I will go for the guard at the door. He is bit strong for you. When I signal, come and help with the guards inside. When we get to our destination, pick off the 2 guards at the door and then fall back.” Brie started to ask something but john interrupted. “No questions just trust me. Brie could tell forced a smile. Something was bothering him And how did he know what was on the inside?
Before she could try to ask again, John rushed out with the speed of light. Brie had no time to worry about this. John started battling. She slowly pulled out her bow.
“Don’t,” John yelled. How did he know? And why wouldn’t he let her take a shot? She waited for a few minutes then quickly took a shot. John quickly pulled the enemy in front of the bow.
After making sure he was dead, John signaled Brie, who quickly ran to the door. Just as he said, there were guards inside. Together, the two of them killed the guards. When they reached their destination, Brie hid behind a wall before she shot the two guards.
“You ok?” Brie asked. She noticed he was breathing slightly faster.
“Yes,” John replied. He paused a moment as Brie looked at him. “Listen,” he said finally. “I have a son. If I should fail this battle or unable to make it back to the Guild, I want you to find him and look after him. After pausing, John pulled Brie back and rushed into the room. Brie stood there in shock.
