Chapter 5

The next day, Nandoz Lab stayed over at Agnes' house after school. The host had just put in a new batch of cookies into the oven when Liz officially ordered a time out.

"Okay that's it!" she bellowed, flopping herself onto the couch. "I am never baking another cookie for the rest of my life."

Agnes chuckled as she and the rest entered the living room, where Liz's long figure had already occupied the whole couch. "You'll get used to it." she said, taking a seat in her father's armchair right next to the fireplace.

Liz's head snapped up to her. "We just baked six batches of cookies, Agnes. Six. One batch is already, what, twelve cookies?"

"Twenty-four," Lydia corrected her.

"Exactly!" she flung her hands up in the air, sitting up in the process. "What were we baking so much for? An army?"

"Well you guys were the ones who wanted to come over to bake, didn't you?" Agnes crossed her arms and leaned back into the armchair, breathing in her father's lingering scent. God, she loved that lemony scent he carried around wherever he went. It always soothed her as a child, especially when she was cranky.

"Yeah, but we didn't ask to bake sixty cookies." Liz retorted, mildly vexed when she noticed the others had taken advantage of her upright position, all five of them situated side by side on the couch.

"Eighty-four," said Nell, rectifying her friend's poor attempt at multiplication.

"I got a D in Math for a reason, Nell!"

"In any case, let's enjoy our hard work, shall we?" said Dhiv, resolving their banter as she usually did. She reached over to the coffee table, only to find half of the cookies gone.

"Weren't there three batches of cookies?" she pointed to the long rectangle container they dumped the first few batches in.

Crunch.

They froze. It was the sound of something being eaten. Judging by the warm chocolate aroma in the air, someone was eating cookies. Their cookies.

Crunch, crunch.

All heads turned to the culprit, cross legged on the floor. The hooded convict paid full attention on the baked goods, munching away with a cookie in each hand like there was no tomorrow. She paused when she noticed the sudden silence, and turned to them with a grin, one devoid of any remorse.

Nolee.

"Nolee Radclyffe!" Onyx said sternly, effectively halting her from eating any further.

"Yesh?"

"To answer your question Liz," Agnes started. "We baked lots of cookies because three of the batches are for Nolee."

"Meenie's cookies are duh best." Nolee told them with big innocent eyes, stuffing another cookie into her mouth.

"Wait, you mean half of the batches we made today are for Lee?" Nell spluttered. She couldn't believe it. All those cookies just for a little girl?!

"She's the biggest fan of my baking." Agnes shrugged.

"She's gonna get cavities!" Lydia cried.

"That's no wowwy," the cookie monster shook her head. "I'm an avid teeth brusher."

"But still, you can get diabetes!"

"Agnes," Dhiv turned to their host for the day. "This isn't healthy for her."

"I've got high metabolism." Nolee stated.

"High metabolism or not," Onyx snatched the cookie - Nolee's next victim - from her hand and placed it in the container where the rest of the cookies sat in Liz's lap. "A growing girl such as yourself shouldn't be eating this much sugar. It's not good for you."

Liz stuck her tongue out at Nolee and started eating the cookies.

"Remember what we promised when we found out about her dad?" Dhiv said quietly, as if it was a secret no one else knew about.

"We promised to take care of her." Lydia answered for her.

"Exactly." Dhiv nodded. "Her health and safety is our number one priority."

"Alright, alright." Agnes put her hands up in defeat. "I'll stop spoiling her with my baking. But, I still have the rights to feed her whatever I want."

"As long as it's healthy, yes."

Ting!

"That must be the cookies," Agnes stood up and went straight into the kitchen with a baker's instinct.

Two minutes later, she emerged with a new container of fresh cookies. "Alright guys, here you go-"

Suddenly, the ground shook with a boom.

Cliff hanger eheheheheheheehehehe.

I know this chapter is a little shorter than the previous four, but this is sort of like a transition to the next part. If you didn't notice, the first four chapters were more of an introduction section. The real plot/storyline starts in the next chapter. *expects you to be excited*

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'm going to post Chapter 6 next week or a chapter of another story I'm still working on (Psychic Dreamer, Broken, Ruth and Megan, Rain and Sunshine, Element, What Color is Thursday?, a poem, a short story that would be uploaded in Collection of Me, etc.). It depends on my writing mood and which story pops up in my mind first. I hope you liked this chapter because it's more or less like a nice little best friend hang out after school.

Have a nice day!
