The Trenchant

"We're sorry." I mumbled as I look one last time at that small settlement for those poor homeless people, which is now reduced to just about a few standing walls and collapsed concrete. Thankfully, they are about to be helped by the government and get relocated to an actual settlement. The three of us got our hands cuffed, then we got escorted to this secure high tech van.

"I'll meet you guys back at the Trenchant." The woman said as she thrusts herself to fly back to the skies.

As soon as we sat down inside the van, I suddenly couldn't move.  They didn't attach anything to us or something, but we couldn't move, not even blink. It was a short and quiet travel. I didn't see even one soldier flinch, perhaps they're Androids too.

The van stopped in a cave in the middle of a forest, then we descended down to a high security facility, where we got dropped off. The place was brightly lit, no dark corners and there wasn't any hint of any smell, which indicates that the staff in this place are androids. The three of us were escorted to our own rooms to be interrogated. The room had two glass chairs and a table

Just as I sat down, a person entered the room.

"Hello, my name is Elliot. I am the android assigned to this case. Before any formalities, I just want to say that you and your team are quite impressive. I have been in every single event and I just couldn't find any trace or clues big enough for me to find your whereabouts. Too bad you already handed yourself over, I was getting pretty close to finding you." He said with a big grin

"What? Am I supposed to say Thank you?"

"You're welcome. Anyways, how about we agree on making my job easier? Just tell the truth and nothing less, I can read your heartbeat if you lie, so you know... just answer my questions and we'll be out of here in less than five minutes" He said while reading his tablet

"Really, that's the attitude you're going with? Narcissistic cop?" I said

"Yes, in order to save not only my time, but also yours."

He stood up and started rapidly scrolling the screen on his tablet

"Hmm, what should I ask about first? Ah! For starters, how about where is your base of operations?"

"In an abandoned warehouse in the outskirts of the city."

"Were you involved in any way in the city bombing done by androids that was executed at exactly 6:43 in the morning yesterday?"

"No. Not in anyway that I think that would've been for that event."

"What do you mean 'not in anyway'?" He said as he sat down

"I admit that helped the same android group to hack into TV Stations to air our videos, but not the bombing. Not that. I could never agree to that." I said firmly

There were a few seconds of silence, while Elliot was staring into the table

"How long have you been with that android group?"

"I guess about a few months now"

"How about the two other androids that were with you? Were they in that group as well?

"Yes. Hazel was there a few weeks before I came, while we found Kurt fleeing after we he was abused and damaged by his owners"

Elliot took a deep breath. "Alright. We're done here. See I told you we wouldn't last five minutes here! The guards will bring you to your cell after I leave."

"Wait. What'll happen to us? We're just locked up?"

"For the time being, yes. You know what, I gotta be honest with you, this place is a mess right now with all the riots happening out there, we're running out of androids to deploy. Along with that, all the juries are scared to make any decisions right now, actually they're scared even just to get out of their houses, so all legal and justicial decisions are halted from being made until everything clears up. So yes, you're going to be locked up, but after seeing your profile and your cases, I don't think you're going to last long being in a cell." Elliot said with a grim face

He stood up and left the room. An android brought me out of the room. As he took me to my cell, I got to see all these androids training.

"Why are they still training? They're already programmed with those anyways" I said quietly

"Because those aren't android police, they are inmates too." The guard said

"You heard me say that? Oh wait, of course you did, why wouldn't you?" I said

The guard escorted me to my cell. The cell block in particular is nearly empty, there were only 7 occupied cells out of the 25 cells. Thankfully, my cell is just nearby from Hazel and Kurt's. The cell only had one almost-floor leveled bed.

"Shawn! Can you hear me?" Hazel shouted

"Are you and Kurt alright?" I said

"Yes. What about you?" Kurt said

"I'm fine. Did they say anything about your cases?" I said

"They said that my case was on hold until the riots are finished." Hazel said nervously

"Alright that's good, I guess. Until everything is taken care of, we'll stay here. At least we're safe." I said to calm them down

I lied down on the bed, then everything started to go dark. I tried to move and stand up, but I couldn't, then suddenly I was submerged in blood. I stood up, gasping for air and confused. It was dark and cold, then suddenly a ray of light appeared, with it was a burst of warmth. I slowly walked towards it.

The light was encased in a glass room, and on the other side of it seems to be another person. He entered the room the same time as I did. A man, who is bleeding and wearing a holed-up combat uniform. Dark hair and pale skin, seems to be in his mid to late 30's. I look at him and he does the same, he seems to be mimicking me.

"Who are you?" I asked

He smiled. "I am you. The real you."

"What? What do you mean?"

He flashes forward. "Have you forgotten me? Your mission?"

"What? What are you talking about?!"

"Well, let me remind you." He said as he placed his hand on my head

A computer. A war-zone. A photo of his family. A lifeless body of a little girl. A crate full of guns. Running. An android. Lot's of bombing and shooting. Himself dying in front of a machine.

I saw all of these, while a voice was whispering "Find Amelia"

I woke up, only to see that I have already scribbled my cell walls with the writing "I'll be back"
