Stefan's POV

She was born on a humid summer day. Matt was calling everyone about the baby. That was the one thing I was jealous of that Matt had and I didn't. He was able to create a family. He'll come home from work every day. He'll kiss his wife, Patty. He'll come home to hear the playful noises of his new daughter. I would never be able to do that. It just brings back the visions of Elena and I years ago. It was paradise. Marko' s was the one that caused our visions of each other. Our visions were about her and I in an alternative universe. I wasn't a vampire and either was she. Her parents weren't dead. Damon hadn't caused her to fall for him. Elena and I were happily married with two kids. A love that seemed so real. Once the visions stopped, it hurt her and I. Our alternate selves lived happily. It was everything Elena wanted. It was everything I wanted too. Before Katherine destroyed my humanity and turned me into a monster. A ripper I should say.

I'm glad Matt lived a human life though. It seemed as if all his friends turned into supernatural creatures except him. He was the lucky one out of all of us. Elena was a vampire along with Caroline, Damon and I. Bonnie was a witch. Tyler was a hybrid (part vampire, part werewolf.) Jeremy Gilbert (Elena' s brother) was a hunter, but he didn't harm all vampires. Matt was human. Human. What all of us wished for again.

I walked into the hospital doors. I could smell metallic. It was blood. Someone was in surgery. But I've learned to control myself and block the scent. Everything looked so boring in here. Plan white walls. Tiled floors. Wooden doors. It looked like something you would see in hell. People feel safe in hospitals, but I wouldn't feel safe here. It's full of fear. This could be the place you would die in someday. And everyday on these beds lies a dead body. A soul taken away. Doctors can't help ever. It's always the person fighting for their lives. Doctors are only here to tell you what medical condition you have. After that, it's you really fighting. Hospitals. A human should fear.

I opened the door to a hospital room. I stepped in as quiet as possible. All of Matt's friends were gathered around. Bonnie had a smile across her face. Elena had tears of joy in her eyes. Caroline was standing next to her. Tyler sat on a chair smiling. I walked closer to them. That's when I heard the soft cry. The baby was in Patty' s arms. She tried to rock it to sleep. Matt was standing near Patty' s bed. He smiled at the baby. Playing with her little fingers. Matt had specs of silver in his hair. He was growing older. Lucky for him. As I will look seventeen forever. Matt had one of those old man crooked smiles. Matt's not old old. He's in his mid thirties. Matt looked up at me and smiled, "You came." He said. I nodded my head, "Of course I did." I said. I walked towards Elena. She kept smiling at the baby. Elena' s smile was still beautiful and young. Still the same when I met her 18 years ago. Elena grabbed my arm.

She leaned into it, "Isn't she beautiful?" Elena asked with a bit of sadness. I stroked her cheek, "Yeah," I said. I kissed The top of her head. She cradled into me more. "I'm glad Katherine' s dead," she told me, "then she won't threaten Matt's daughter. No harm will come to her." I didn't respond back. Matt looked up at Elena, "Do you want to hold her, Elena?" Matt asked. Elena nodded her head, "Of course," she said. She walked over to Patty. Patty carefully handed Elena the baby. Elena rocked her back and forth on the balls of her feet.

Caroline elbowed me in the shoulder, "She seems a little too happy about Matt's baby." She said. I shrugged, "She's happy that one of us could have a child." I said.

"I know, I know," she said, "Its the miracle of life."

"A beautiful miracle." I said.

"You know I was kind of excited to have kids." Caroline said, "I was excited to see there cliche talent shows, go to a parent conference, make them lunches for school, even being their soccer mom."
