"You're an idiot."
"But what if there are really vampires here."
"Doubt it. But if there are we are gonna kick their asses!"
My cousin Ty and I were walking around town to get familiar feel for the place. We had "moved" from Ohio and are living in my car. I know we sound like hobos, but we're not.
"OOOH! Boardwalk!" Ty yelled pulling at my arm.
"Stop touching me!" I said trying to be released from his grip.
"There might be food..." Ty knows food is always my weakness.
"Fine!"
We walked for what felt like miles to the boardwalk. Up close this thing was HUGE. It had a merry-go-round, a Ferris wheel, and a bunch of booths with games. I'm not interested in that stuff, but I guess Ty is.
"Hey wanna go on the Ferris wheel?" Ty asked while pulling me by my wrist.
"Not really." I pulled back.
"Fine. Then I'll go by myself."
"Ty, that's not gonna happen. I'm supposed to look after you while we're here. You are not leaving my sight."
"Please! I'll find you when I'm done..." He pleaded.
I took a deep breath while thinking. "Fine. Just don't go too far. You got that?"
"Ok mother." He rolled his eyes and walked away.
I worry about that child. One day he is going to get himself in a lot of trouble. I hope it's not today. I walked around for a while, and then stopped in front a small store.
It was a comic book store. It was some what unorganized. There were comics filling several book shelves and the wall space. Wasn't the best looking thing in the world, but it seemed interesting. I walked in and looked to find no one in the store.
"Woah. Nerd head quarters." I whispered.
"Excuse me?"
I jumped and let out a tiny shreak. I turned to see a teenager carrying a box of comic books. "I ment..." I thought for a second, "No. That's what I ment."
"Hey Alan, have you seen my-" Another teenager came in from the back. He paused and looked at me. "Whose the chick?"
"I don't know. I just walked in." Alan, I'm guessing said as he placed several comic books on a bookshelf.
The other boy had light brown hair with a bandana. His face was serious. He examined me for a second, "Hmm... Never seen you around here before."
"I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing." I said not looking at him as I watched Alan rearrange the books.
"Guess we're gonna have to find out." The teenager held out his hand, "I'm Edgar and this is my brother Alan."
"What? No last name?" I shook his hand.
"Frog." Alan said.
"Nice. This is a very interesting place you got here." I glanced around again, "I'm Dakota Anderson."
"Where you from, Anderson?" Edgar asked as he hopped up on the chashier counter
"A wonderful little town in Ohio."
"Ohio is a long way from here. What made you come to Santa Carla?" Alan said not looking up from rearranging.
"Well. Seemed like a really unusual place."
Alan looked up at Edgar. They exchanged looks. "So you came here because it seemed unusual?" Alan stepped away from the bookself.
"Everyone needs an adventure at one point in their lives." I reassured.
Edgar hopped off the counter. "You moved to the murder Capitol of the world because you wanted to go on some stupid adventure?"
"Woah. Hold on a second. Murder Capitol of the world?"
"Yha. Don't you read the news?"
"No. I don't like to read." the boys looked at me like I was crazy. Then I realized where I was. "Thats the stupidest thing to say in a comic book store. I ment I don't read or even watch the news. It's boring." I picked up a Batman comic book, "Now this stuff can last you a lifetime of entertainment. Yha know. If you don't have a social life."
They both let out a little smile.
"Which I don't. So here I am." I smiled back and started flipping through the comic book.
"So what do you nerds do for fun around here?" I asked, not looking up from the comic book I was currently fascinated with.
"We are not nerds." Edgar said.
"You guys own a comic book store."
"Our parents own a comic book store." Alan corrected.
"We work here part time." Edgar said.
"Part time? You mean you have a life outside of this place?" I teased.
"This is just our cover." Alan walked closer to me.
"We serve for a high purpose." Edgar stepped forward.
"Bet you say that to all the ladies." I joked.
Alan grabbed a comic from a shelf, "Here Anderson, read this."
He handed me the comic. The title read "Vampires Everywhere". "A vampire comic. Really guys." I laughed, "The funny thing is I hate scary movies, yet I love horror comics."
"They just might-" Alan started.
I cut him off. "Save your life." Both him and Edgar looked at me with wide eyes. "Yha I've heard that before."
"Are you sure you're not a nerd?" Edgar asked.
"I never said I wasn't."
"You don't really need that comic, do you?" Alan interrogated.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I was lieing through my teeth. Right when I was going to say something, Ty ran in.
"Dakota!" He said out of breath. "Oh thank god. I found you."
"What you thought I was lost?"
"No. I thought I was." He took a deep breath, "I was trying to find you and walked by a group of guys. You know, really weird looking. With leather and chains and bikes and mullets."
"Woah there. Calm down." I patted his back.
"They look like... yha know. What we came here for."
"What did you come here for?" I totally forgot the boys were in the same room.
"Who are these nerds?" Ty asked.
"No one. Come on let's go." I grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the store. I ran back in real quickly."I'm coming back tomorrow. Just to warn you." I said and ran back out.
