Ruby Red
Into the woods. (Again).
Tripping over a gnarled root, I feel the cold hard ice beneath my sodden tunic and rough riding pants.
"Great, just what I need right now!" I spit to no one but myself.
Turning over on my back, I stare up at the cloudless sky, and watch the skeleton trees sway to the rhythm of my heart. Looking down at the waxing moon on my necklace, I finger it and watch as it slowly grows with the moon high in the sky.
"I better find this secluded town before the next full moon." I think to myself. Shivering I get up and hug myself for warmth.
It goes to show that finding a town in the middle of snow covered nowhere AND in the dark is well HARD. I think as I run into a tree for the third time. I shiver in my wet and useless boots as another cold, and villainous wind pushes me. Hearing a twig snap I whirl around toward the suspicious noise. Turning I sprint, cloaking myself in the dark evergreen. My ragged breathing fills my ears making the footsteps faint. Hearing a branch snap closer to my vicinity, I abruptly stop deciding to face the threat.
Quickly turning my body in a circle I let the animal take control, letting me see the culprit. Catching movement out of the corner of my eye, I turn just ever so slightly. Taking in the foreign shadow, I realize-he's not a hunter- but a boy close to my age.
"Who are you? I have a sword!" I shout, suspicion cloaking my voice.
"Wow very threatening, but don't worry. I won't hurt you, boy." Says the figure, trying to 'calm me down'
The boy steps closer and in a split second of instinct, he's on the ground with my sword resting on his Adams apple.
