I had Ashlyn wait in the hall while I went back into the classroom for our bags. Everything made sense now, I understand finally. That's why she didn't want to be around people, why she always rejected the idea of friends. Because she was afraid of what she was. Now that I know who she is, it's time for her to learn who I am.

I went over to Ashlyn's seat then mine, ignoring all the curious and confused looks I got as I retrieved our bags. When I turned to leave, Mrs. Johnson was standing in my way with her arms crossed.

"And where are you and Ashlyn going?" She snapped, making it clear we weren't aloud to leave. My eyes narrowed as I lifted my lip in a snarl. I usually kept my cool, listening to my teachers like a good student, but I wasn't afraid to show my dominance when needed. And right now, I wasn't fucking around while my mate needed me.

"Out of my way Mrs. Johnson..." I growled, stepping forward. Her eyes widened and she instantly stepped back. I walked past her and into the hallway, slipping my arm around Ashlyn's waist as I led her down the hall. I was overjoyed when Ashlyn didn't push me away or elbow my side; she just pressed close, eyes red and puffy from the crying. It tore at my heart to see her like this, to see her so sad.

"It's OK Ashlyn, please don't be upset..." I whispered pleadingly. She glanced up at me, her gaze pained.

"I can't help it..." She murmured looking down. I rubbed her side reassuringly as we went down the front steps of the school to my car. I unlocked the driver's side door and reached down, unlocking the rest of the doors. Leaning over, I set our bags in the back then led Ashlyn around to the passenger side and held the door as she slid in.

"I have to make a phone call, so just hang tight and we'll leave soon," I told her then gently shut the door. I leaned against the car as I held my phone to my ear, foot tapping impatiently as I waited. I growled in frustration when my Father didn't answer so I tried someone else.

"Aren't you supposed to be in class?" Zishan asked almost accusingly. I growled slightly but pushed it down.

"I was, but then something happened. I'm coming home and Ashlyn is with me, so make sure the pack is being civil." I said pushing off the side of the car and walking around to the driver's side.

"Wait wait wait, why?! What happened?!" he hissed lowly.

"I'll explain when we get there." I said as I shut the car door and hung up. I buckled my seatbelt and stared into Ashlyn's eyes when I caught her looking at me.

"Was that Zishan?" she asked softly. I nodded and tucked a few loose strands of flaming hair behind her ear and out of her face. I was worried she was getting annoyed with all the touching, but I couldn't stop even if I wanted to. Wolves were affectionate creatures, and werewolves even more so. Touch is a way to comfort eachother so my instincts naturally told me to be affectionate. I wanted to make her happy, to be the reason she smiled when she was about to cry. I smiled as Ashlyn leaned into my touch.

"Better...?" I asked softly. She nodded and closed her eyes.

"Mm, yeah..." she whispered. I felt my face heat up as I watched her, my heart pounding with the inability to handle how adorable she was. I forced myself to pull away and started the car then quickly took her hand before she had time to get disappointed.

"Why do we have to go to your house to talk?" she asked, settling back against the seat.

"Because I need my Dad's help explaining and schools too public." I answered, rubbing the back of her hand with my thumb. Ashlyn laid her head back against the seat and closed her eyes.
