"What do you mean she's on the kitchen floor?"

Suddenly taking each breath was harder than it ever had been in my life.

"Katie I came home from work and found her like this I don't know what happened,' his voice sounded very shaky.

"Don't worry babe, I'll be right over."

Laura was my best friend! We had gone through everything together ever since kindergarten. And now that Her brother Luke and I were dating, it made us that much closer. She never bugged me about our relationship, she knew I loved him very much.

I ran to my car keys. All the way to their house, I kept on praying to the Lord. Praying that she was ok and that the little bastard had gotten wasted again. Anything... ANYTHING!!! I was in denial for I wanted to believe everything but reality.

I already had their house keys, since I was always over here. I ran in to the kitchen, and there was Luke, kneeling down beside Laura. He didn't say a word, for I knew what I had to do. I searched for a pulse, the only problem was there wasn't one.... she was dead. I told Luke that, and he kept silent. I then noticed a blood stain on her shirt, it looked like she had been stabbed, but I didn't mention anything about that, for he could see the blood. It wasn't that hard to notice. I wanted to cry, but there was too much sadness inside of me for the tears to come out. I felt that once I started crying I wouldn't be able to stop.

I called the police who said they would be right on their way. I sat down next to Luke and put my arm around him. And for the first time ever I saw a tear running down his cheek. I ran my hand through his dirty blonde hair, and his usually sparkling blue eyes were a dull gray. I buried my head in his shoulder, because I needed comfort, and right now he was the only one I had... we needed each other.

I had run out to the nearest funeral home and luckily they had a few new caskets I could buy. I picked out the best looking one. I didn't care how much it cost, I just handed him the credit card without even looking.  They said it would be set up for me Sunday morning. When I got back the police were still there. They told us that she had possibly been murdered, but Luke didn't seem surprised. He kept on looking down. When they left with the body, Luke was just sitting on his step looking more depressed than ever. I thought I heard my heart snap.

"Come one, I'm not leaving you here like this, you're coming with me," I said as I started to get my car keys.

"No, I'm staying here, I don't want to go anywhere," he replied.

So, like the idiot I am,  I stood there with him and made both of us dinner. We were lucky if we could even take one bite. The death was so painful to both of us, which made it unbearable to eat. Soon enough I had to leave.

He walked me out to my car, and told me that no matter how painful this was, he will never stop loving me. Then he suddenly kissed me. He pressed his lips lightly against mine. \ He kept on kissing me and slipped his hands onto my waist. It didn't feel the same, but it wasn't that bad. I guess that  Luke and I were going to have to get used to this...

I then got into my car, waved goodbye, and drove off. He had promised me that he would come over tomorrow. I was dreading to go to the funeral, for I wanted to go and see her and I didn't want to at the same time, but I knew I had to. When I got home, I decided to call his work and tell them that he would have to take off for the rest of the week.
