What if I told you life is not what people say it's about? It's more difficult, challenging, but maybe, it just may be worth it.
Eliot : August 27th
I saw this girl walking along the school lockers, but what I didn't know is that she would change my life.
It was the first day of school and this new girl dressed in all black, all alone, and wore a hoodie in 75 degree heat caught my eye. Strange right? This girl was a weird one, but why couldn't I take my eyes off her? That's when Jackson came up to me.
"Go over there and talk to her instead of being a creep and watching her from the sidelines!"
I turn to look at him kind of shocked that this took me by surprise, Jackson and I have been friends since middle school and he has always tried to scare me even when I'm totally aware of him.
I ignore what he's saying and stand my ground. I'm too shy to talk to her, too scared of what she'll think of me, and too frightened to know what people would think of us.
Later that day I see her walking alone in the cafeteria, wondering where she is going I slowly follow her.
"Some people would consider this stalking." The voice in my head says, but I ignore it.
But as soon as I focused on my brain, I lost her.
"Ughhh." I let out softly so no one could hear, but who would? I'm alone in the hallway. I start to head back to the cafeteria, and sat beside Jackson.
"Went to go chase the new girl again?" Jackson says.
"No." I responded quietly.
"Mmmhm, she's just another crush that you'll never get, I don't get it Eliot, you're into the weird girls."
"Whatever, and you're in way over your league." I watch him take a swift glance at Stephanie, brown hair ombreing to a blonde, obviously dyed, green eyes, and a smile that's like an actress. Yet still he persisted that he's not.
"Mmhmm." I respond
I then see the girl walking in the cafeteria again before the bell rings to go to 5th hour. My eyes slowly start to follow her, until I notice the bell rings and Jackson is staring at me waiting for me to walk with him.
"Eliot you're hopeless, when will you talk to her, before you freak her out?"
"Why are you worried about that Jackson, when will you talk to Stephanie and get denied?"
"I never get denied!" Jackson says confidently, and then sighs. "One day I'll do it... When I know it's the right time."
"Okay whatever you say." I respond.
I enter my Chemistry class and there she is, standing there in that hoodie with her light brown hair with little blonde highlights. We make eye contact for the first time and I felt something turn in my stomach. Her eyes... Her eyes were an indigo color.
Iris: August 27th
I take a swift of air in.
Silence at first, then laughter, then all the noise rushes in like nothing I've ever heard before and it overwhelms me. I walk away from the sound and away from everyone in the cafeteria to eat in silence, then I feel the presence of a person watching me. I couldn't see them but as soon as I had passed the corner, I didn't feel like anyone was watching me anymore. I then started to head to the art class to the only teacher I like in this school, Mrs. Olivia. She's my first hour teacher but at least I can talk to her since my own mother won't listen to me because she thinks I'm a monster ever since I was 13. I'm not sure why, but maybe because puberty started to hit me and my attitude started to change, I guess.
I got lost in thought and before I knew it, I was already in her class, eating alone, peaceful and silent. I loved it here rather than that noisy cafeteria, but as soon as I got done eating, the teacher looked up at me.
"Hey Iris, I think it's time for you to go back, the bell is about to ring."
I look at her with a little bit of discourage in my eyes and groan softly so she won't hear.
"Okay, thank you for letting me eat here at least." I say in the kindest way possible.
"No problem. Come back tomorrow if you'd like." She responded back with a smile and looks at me with sorrowful eyes.
Just like that I left and returned to the cafeteria, feeling eyes on the back of my head again.
Yet right as soon as I sat down alone at a table, the bell rang and I headed to Mr.Pearson's class..
"Oh chemistry, how I have none of that with anyone." I say under my breath.
I walked in and that fake smile that teachers always use is on Mr.Pearson's face. My mom uses that on me everyday when I get home too, but you get used to it.
I sit down and luckily I'm the second one there. I sit by a window, and when everyone started to arrive, they start to ignore my presence and sit around me but I keep my head down until this boy arrives and I lift my head because again I felt darts in the back of my head.
I meet his eyes, the middle part around the pupil is blue but the outside is green, as I look into them, he stares back, and I felt something, maybe it was the lunch, but maybe, just maybe it wasn't and on that day I swore to never forget those eyes. The prettiest eyes I've ever seen were in the same exact room with me and I felt astonished. As I got lost in my thoughts, he came to sit by me, leaving only a few feet between us.
But the silence soon enough faded out as I snapped out of my thoughts and the teacher tried to calm the class down.
"Okay class everyone settle down" Mr.Pearson says
And just like that, the class started to calm down.
"Wow he must be magical, calming down a class that quick." I say in my head because we all knew if I said that out loud, I'd get called out and I'd have to talk. We all knew I didn't want to, but since I was the new girl to this school and the only fresh face in class, the teacher had to say something.
"Nice to see a new face around here once in awhile, Ms. Raine." I give a small, awkward smile then look down trying to ignore him.
But of course, that didn't work.
"Why don't you come up introduce yourself?"
I get up out of my seat moving past the boy, and headed to the front of the class where I can feel all the eyes on me.
"H-hi my name is Iris. I'm a Junior a-and I come from a small town in South Carolina."
You could hear people whispering, and giggling but I just ignore it.
"Good job." He says.
I head back to my seat and stay there until it's time to go, but the boy with the pretty eyes stops me.
"H-hi. Iris right?"
"Yeah, I guess that's me." I say back
"Well, I'm Eliot. If you need any help with anything, come to me, I'll be happy to help." He says with a smile, but this smile had a tint of blush with it and it looked genuine, like a real smile and of course, I smile back.
