Chapter 26

David walks me into a cold, gray stoned room. I can't help but think of Abnegation.

He walks to a safe, puts in the combo, and takes out a small, but long metal container. As he opens it, I see a needle with a blue serum in it. The blue is the color of Tobias's eyes. I wish I could go back home, and wrap my arms around him. I'd be safe, and be with my family. Be strong for them, a voice in my head tells me.

"What is it?" He smirks evilly, and that tells me that it's going to be bad. "Torture serum. It's basically your fear landscape but way worse." Before I can stop him, he ejects it into my vein, and the world goes black.

When my eyes open again, I am in an empty room. As I look around, I see Tobias appear, with Alex and Liv in his hands. A faceless man walks through a door, a gun in his hand. No, no, no. "Tobias, run!" I scream, but he doesn't even acknowledge me. Tobias turns around, so his back is facing the man, protecting Alex and Liv. He pulls the trigger, and Tobias slumps to the ground. "Tobias!" I shriek, my voice sounding loud, but weak.

The man turns to me, finger on the trigger. But when I look at the gun, something in my head clicks. With the strongest voice I can summon, I say,"Go ahead, shoot me. This isn't real." The room around me slowly fades, until I see nothing.

Tears stream down my face, and I realize that I'm out of the simulation. It wasn't real, a voice squeaks in my head, but a louder one says, but what if you actually lost him when you were taken?

In a threatening voice, David says,"Tell me how you did that, or you won't like the consequences." I don't listen to him, all I can think about is the simulation. It broke me, and I'm never going to be the same.

"Tell me, now!" Tears rush down my face, but all I can manage is,"N-no." David glares, his eyes making me feel small. "I guess you can have it that way," he says, and twist my wrist together so hard I scream. As he continues to keep turning my wrist, I hear a snap, causing my vision to blacken in the corners, and the pain is so colossal I fall to my knees.

David kicks my back, forcing me to stand up. I close my eyes as tears stream from them, trying to make all the pain go away.

After a few minutes of walking, David throws me into an empty, cold, and wet room. I crawl to a corner, and curl up into it.

Three men walk in, all carrying belts. They walk over, and start to whip my back. I scream, every lash hurting worse than the last. This is how Marcus beat Tobias. They're using his fears against me. I have to be strong for him, especially now. I'll get out of here eventually, but for now, I have to deal with the challenges in front of me.
