Many millennia ago, there were five powerful tribes: Fire, Ocean, Nature, Night, and Frost. They lived in relative peace, tending to their lands and avoiding contact with one another unless necessary. Creatures thrived; vivid artistic creations were crafted, elemental skills were honed to perfection, and trade between the territories ensured wealth and economic prosperity throughout the realm. It was what one would rightfully call a golden age. The tribes faced no threats, but for each other - and they were loath to cause conflicts.
Thus, Skywind flourished.
But though gold does not tarnish, ages of peace have a tendency to do so. The Fire Tribe, notorious for its impulsive manner, gained a new leader - and she was the personification of Fury itself. Hungry for land and power, she declared war upon the Frost Tribe, and legions of flame-wielding beasts were soon marching through the frozen taiga, incinerating any who dared cross their paths. Frost refused to go down without a fight; but what a vain fight it was, for Fire was destined to win.
And they did.
The tranquility of Skywind was disrupted. Upon the Fire Tribe's decisive victory at the Battle of Frystan Point, members of the Frost Tribe were immediately slaughtered. Those that were lucky enough to escape the purge were forced to flee into exile, far from their homeland. Thus, Fire's warmongering reputation was earned, one that they have yet to reverse. Peace was over. Fire went on to start skirmishes on its borders with the other tribes, who had no choice but to fight back.
But trouble was brewing on Greenglade Mountain.
A powerful mage of the Nature Tribe was driven mad by ambition, and murdered the leader of his tribe. In outrage, his tribe exiled him, and he was forced to roam the land. Incredibly spiteful, he used dark magic to transform himself into a malevolent, shadow-like creature. Roaming the lands, he collected followers who shared his ideals, and transformed them into shadow-beasts as well. Thus, Skywind's greatest rival for the following centuries was born.
The world of the tribes has not seen peace since its earliest days. What battles were not being fought against the Shadows- for that is what the shade-creatures call themselves- were being fought over land. Alliances have been made and broken, wars have been fought, and the tribes are as divided by loyalties as ever.
Such is the world of Skywind.
