Summary: AU- Jung Yunho has always been caught up in his own world of hotels and restaurants, and it's up to one who can't see the world to show him the world.
Jung Yunho attempted to sit straighter in his chair and resisted the urge to smack himself to prevent any further wandering thoughts. Focus, he thought to himself. Focus! Match-making. Now. Girl. In front of you. Staring at you like you're some kind of weirdo 'cause you've been looking at the same page on the menu for 21 minutes and counting.
Yunho looked past his menu and forced a smile on his face for the girl who was sitting at the opposite end of the table.
She's actually quite pretty. Okay, maybe she's not. But at least she's all natural. At least I think she is. Better off than the previous girl who did so much plastic she would have earned herself a spot in the Tupperware section of a supermarket. Or the girl before that who looked like a poodle had died on her head. Or the old hag before that who was at least 20 centuries older than me. Or the...
He was harshly brought back to reality by someone waving a leather-bound menu in front of him.
"Yunho-sshi. Are you ready to order?"
"O-of course. What would you like?"
She stared at him like he had sprouted tentacles on his head and his suit had just been turned into a pink tutu.
"I've mentioned 3 times that I would be having the cod. Or perhaps you were too engrossed in your menu?"
Yunho flushed. Quickly waving his hand to call a waiter (and to cover his immense embarrassment), he ordered for both of them. As soon as the waiter had left, Yunho straightened his grey silk tie and attempted to sit even straighter in his chair (which, in fact, was not remotely possible). He cleared his throat uncomfortably.
She tapped her wine glass with a manicured finger-nail.
He attempted to sit up straighter.
She glared mildly at the roses which were on the table.
Yunho decided that this would be a good time to try and start a conversation.
"So...uh." What was her name again? "...Sophia. What do you like to do in your spare time?"
"Me? I like to read and garden. What about yourself, Mr. Jung? I'm not expecting you to enjoy gardening, but surely you do read?"
Me? No, I hate reading. Too many words. The only things I read nowadays are business proposals, business proposals and business proposals. Oh yeah, and the occasional post-it informing me that I have to attend a blind date with someone.
"Sure!"
Yunho really hated it when his mouth refused to co-ordinate with his brain.
Her eyes brightened suddenly. "So what kind of books do you read, Yunho-sshi? Fiction, perhaps? Old literature?"
Yunho thought it was best not to tell her that the last fictional book he had read willingly (proudly titled "Wally's great adventure in Boobooland" ^-^) was stored away in the attic together with his stuffed toys and model aeroplanes. He stared at her blankly for her moment before he remembered that he had, in fact, studied old literature before.
