I don't own Harry Potter

(Hermione POV)

"I am so glad that the war is finally over and that we are in final year at Hogwarts." I said to Harry and Ron, as we stepped on the train that would take us to Hogwarts.

"Yes it is almost hard to believe that this war is over and everyone is safe. With everything that happened I was concerned we wouldn't be able to complete, but it seems that they was able to get the repairs done rather quickly. " Harry said, as we walked into an empty compartment and settled in.

It's been a year since the war ended and Hogwarts is rebuilt, and now we can complete out last year in peace. Harry is dating Ginny and Ron broke up with me about 6 months ago and is now dating Lavender, who we all believed was dead, but was apparently saved just in time. It didn't matter anyway, I needed to focus on my studies. With the new law the ministry has passed everyone is engaged including Ron and Harry, everyone except me. They got lucky and was matched up the ones they were already dating. I can't figure out why I wasn't paired up and I didn't tell Ron or Harry, because I didn't want them worry. They seemed to do that a lot more lately and I didn't need them nagging me about bringing it up with the headmistress.

"Hermione what classes are you taking this semester?" Ron asked, with a knowing grin on his face.

."This year I am head girl and I will be taking the N.E.W.T.S." I said, not really answering the question at hand.

"But that doesn't answer my question Hermione." Ron said,  with a grimace on his face.

"Advanced charms and potions, Advanced defense against the dark arts, Herbology and Ancient Runes. That gives me 2 study periods." I replied, which I will use to obviously study for the exams.

"Lucky, I wish that I had some free periods." Ron whined, knowing that he should have listened to me sooner.

"Well if you had taken more classes when you started and done that all along you would be much better off." I said, and turned to look out the window.

"Well I tried, but it's hard. Not all of us is as smart as you Hermione." Ron said in a whiney voice, but he knew that this was his own doing.

"Ron you should have taken Hogwarts serious. I tried to warn you time and time again, but you never listen to me." I said with a loud sigh.

"Now Granger you could be a little nicer." A voice sneered from behind and I knew that voice all too well.

"Well if it isn't Malfoy and his crew." I said, and looked up to see Malfoy. How he got in our compartment unnoticed I'll never know. Over the summer it seemed that he had changed and somehow seemed more mature and if I dare say handsome, but I would keep those thoughts to myself.

"Always pleasant seeing you as well Granger."  Malfoy sneered, but also looked serious.

"What do you want Malfoy?" I asked, ready for him to be gone already. It wasn't like he needed me for anything.

"Well as you know I am headboy." He said with a proud grin on his face.

"Don't remind me." I said with a sense of dread, that would mean that we would be sharing a common room.

"Well my duty is to inform you that Headmistress McGonagall would like to see the two of us after we have eaten and the sorting is complete." He said reminding me of my duties that I needed to do this year.
