AN: I am sorry I got this out so late, but today I got.... wait for it.... NO HOMEWORK. Omg. This only happens on very rare occasions, so I decided to update this book, and write the chapter that will follow this one. Then maybe publish that one. But, anyways, here is the next chapter:
Adrien POV
I got home after the best day with Marinette. I can't believe I thought of her as a friend just last month, but after getting to know each other and spending so much time together, I realized that I had feelings for her. I opened the door to my house thinking of Marinette, when I was surprised to look up to the staircase and see my father.
His face was as expressionless as ever on the outside, but when I looked closer, I saw a hint of anger and irritation. "Adrien." His voice was even colder than the stare he was giving me.
I was immediately nervous, but I straightened myself and copied his composure. "Yes, father?" We always spoke to each other in a professional manner, and rarely let our emotions into a conversation.
"Why weren't you in your bed this morning when Natalie came to wake you?" His composure was starting to crack, and I could see that he was mad. Really mad.
I took a deep breath and started to speak as calmly as I could. "I walked to Marinette's bakery this morning earlier than usual so I could spend some time with her. I didn't mean to cause any trouble." I stared my dad right in the eye, and he was furious now.
"Adrien, you were irresponsible and careless towards your duties today. I am glad you are helping your friend when she needs it, but I think you have done enough for her. You and your friend need to go back to school and learn. I have given you the time to spend with your friend and cut down on your extracurricular activities, but now you need to get back on your regular schedule. As of today, you will spend no more time at your friend's bakery. I'm sure that after a week of your help, she can manage by herself." He kept a stern gaze on me, and I was in shock of what he was saying. I wouldn't be able to work with Mari anymore? I cast my gaze downwards in defeat. I knew he already had his mind set on this, so I chose to just obey him. "Do you understand, Adrien?"
I didn't hesitate to reply. "Yes father." I heard his soft footsteps walking further away from me, and once I heard his office door close, I walked up to my room.
When I finally got to my room and closed the door, Plagg came out of my shirt. "You okay, Adrien? You look kind of down." I sighed, mostly to myself.
"Ya, I'll be okay. But I better call Mari to tell her I won't be there tomorrow." I got out my phone and dialed her number. I put it up to my ear and it started ringing.
"Hey, Adrien. What's up?" Her voice was sweet and cheerful as always, which made me smile a bit, before I became down again.
"Well, uh, I kinda got in trouble with my dad. He's not too happy about me being at your bakery this morning without telling him. So, I'm not going to be there tomorrow." I sigh and run my fingers through my hair, waiting for her answer.
"Oh. Well, I'm sure that I can manage the bakery by myself now. My bandages come off today, so I will be gone for a bit. But, with all the business you drummed up while being here it will be okay if I just take a break for a bit. Don't worry about it." She sounded kind of disappointed, but same as always as she rambled over the phone. I smiled at how I imagined her blushing and tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Thanks, Mari. I'm really sorry that I couldn't help more until your parents come back." I frowned as I thought about the first day I was with her, and the bakery was a mess. Would that happen again?
"It's alright. Don't worry about it. I had fun with you while it lasted." Her tone was cheerful again, and I could just feel her bright smile from the other end of the phone.
"I had fun too. I hope we can hang out just us again sometime. Maybe a date, once your parents come back." I shyly blushed and rubbed my nape as I hoped she would accept my offer.
"Sure. Once my parents come back, we can totally hang out together. See you later." She was really enthusiastic and I smiled at her warm energy.
"Later." I hung up the phone, looking out my window as I thought of Marinette. Her smile, her eyes, her laugh, her positive attitude, everything about her I admired and loved. I sighed to myself as I walked to my bed, where plagg was already asleep next to some Camembert. I rolled my eyes as I chuckled at his love for cheese. I got under the covers and closed my eyes, as I slowly drifted off to sleep.
Marinette POV
I looked down at my phone after Adrien hung up, happy that we were gonna go on a date soon, but also kind of disappointed that we couldn't spend more time together in the bakery. I looked back out into the city, and hoping that I would do well by myself now.
As I thought about this, something in the corner of my eye caught my attention. I looked down into the street below my balcony to see the same black van I saw on Saturday. I flinched as I took a sharp breath in. I gripped the balcony rail as I stared intensely at the van, trying to look at everything I could, but it quickly drove away. I released a breath I didn't know I was holding, and loosened my grip on the rail.
Why was I so worried? Maybe it's nothing, but in this town it probably isn't. I mean, I did just get beaten in an alley and fight a super villain named hawkmoth in my own red-spotted hero costume half of the time. I shook my head as my anxiety rose. I need to stop thinking like this. I will just keep an eye out for it, and not let it bother me.
