Inner Element

Prologue

The day was bright and loud but in the testing room where the woman sat it was dark and peaceful. The woman had a name but the scientists who were testing the power on her only called her by her last name. She was fearless but at this moment she felt frightened, very frightened.
Suddenly the door flew open with a bang as it hit the wall. She wanted to run but she was tied down to a testing bed and could hardly move. All her dark brown hair tied back and her green eyes wide with fear.
     A man came over to her with bright blond hair, his eyes were closed but when he opened them they were a beautiful hazel brown. She look up just as he began to speak and he asked her, "Are you sure you are good with this? It could change your life." The woman knew she'd hardly had a choice anymore, she'd prepared too long, so she nodded anyways.
This needle could give her a power like nothing else, she didn't know what it did yet but the plan was to give powers from the water, fire, air and earth elements. Everyone else would only get one of the four but they had to test all of them on her.
     She took a deep breath and responded, "I'm ready." She watched as he took the needle out of a case, it was sharp and the liquid was a dirty camouflage green, the smell was awful and sour like a rotting animal that was dipped in milk that then got left out in the sun for multiple weeks. he brought it toward her arm.
She could not watch, she shut her eyes tight...so tight. Just at that moment she changed her mind and wanted to yell it out with all her might, but it was too late the needle was already in her arm. She could feel the icky liquid travel thought her arm. Her stomach twisted and she gagged at the pain it gave her.
As it came out she felt nothing different she let out a long sight and felt as if her smell was stronger. As she opened her eyes her vision had sharpened and as the man looked at her he gasped before scribbling something down on a clip board then saying, "Your eyes are not green anymore they are a blue... How do you feel?"
     He then scribbled more down. Suddenly she felt a burst of energy that urged her to test these new abilities."My senses have sharpened. I need to test these now come on!" She exclaimed. She had almost forgotten she was trapped down and she tried to get up and as she forced her way up she was shocked. The man then spoke calmly but frightened ,"Not now we need to see how you will react to it, there could be a late reaction we will observe you from up there." She looked up to where he was pointed, she hadn't even seen the small glass wall that led to an observation room."we will watch for about half an hour to an hour."he said as he put the needle in a bag. She watched as the man left and as the door closed the chains were released, she sat up and look around the empty room with nothing to do but think.

After what felt like hours of walking around the room, and sitting on the bed thinking, a voice came out of a speaker on the roof that said, " Ok, you are all good please exit to the door on your left. We need to start testing your abilities." Finally she got to go and do something. She got up and  Scurried to the door. She though she had imagined them speaking to her at first because the door was not opening. She looked up at the observation room, instead of the five that were up there it was empty.
Suddenly the door slid open to revel a bright, blinding white room. She slowly walked and her eyes hurt from the brightness.  Before she knew it she was in the  middle of the familiar room. She looked around at the walls and on one of the wall was over 15 buttons. They formed a pattern. There were two on the side of all the rest. Over one of the two there was a speaker that said talk, she guessed it meant that was how she could talk to the scientists. Thinking about the scientists she looked up guessing there was another observation room, there was. The second button said start, over it. She clicked the talking button and started to speak curiously, "what exactly I'm I  Supposed to do.?" She waited for a few seconds then she realized she was still pushing the button. She Quickly let go and looked up at the observation room. One of the scientists nodded and started to speak, "Hit one of the buttons and you will have to solve a challenge. We will compare the results with your previous results. Take your time and do one challenge at a time." She looked at all of them before speaking, "Do I have to do all of these?" She guessed she did.  She looked at all of the buttons. They overwhelmed her. A voice interrupted her thoughts that said,"yes but you will get a small break in the middle." She looked at the first three over them they said  speed, intelligence and puzzles. So she hit the first and from the ground came an treadmill. She stepped on and started to run.

After all the tests the scientists found out that these powers give you inhuman things, the element that you have heals you, your senses sharpen, you have more speed strength, and you use more of your brain. They released it immediately not finished every test. Soon, they discovered the people who had this power for 5 years lost self control for periods of time, so they had to eliminate everyone with  it. The scientists could not handle it, the embarrassment, the failure, the deaths  they'd caused, so they stopped, they just vanished from the world. No one has heard of them in since.
