The streets of London are not very appealing this late in the evening.
The sun's rays were casting an eerie light over the cobblestone roads, elongating shadows to walk sinisterly along the road. I could feel intent eyes of greedy mongers ready to pick me apart as I strode briskly down the ways. Tales of such were often tossed about in the presence of nobles, peasants being scorned for existing.
There was a feeling bubbling up in me that was not ever so new, as I had felt it countless times before. Adrenile had my heart pumping with the speed of the fastest horses, and I soon heard the accompanying thunder in my ears. I closed my eyes, trying to relieve myself of the thrill I felt running through me.
It was not fear, if that is what you are thinking. I do not fear anything, so there is no need for such a petty little emotion.
I continued making my way through the filthy streets, growing aware of the presence following me. I thought nothing of it at first, but then I was soon making turns to places I was far too lost in. I was sure something was terribly wrong when the presence just vanished. I shuddered and moved on, keeping myself composed.
I should have turned back, but I did not. I was soon hopelessly lost and a clear target for anyone to reach. My breathing was becoming labored after what seemed like an hour. I pulled out my pocket watch, making my first mistake.
No sooner had I taken my watch out did a grimy hand snatch it and run. My gaze shot up to the retreating figure that held my possession in hand, and I was soon chasing after them. I then made my second mistake.
I followed them down winding alley after alley, losing myself in the maze of London all for a watch.
How foolish of me. I was surely letting down plenty of people with my antics. I was gaining on the thief when they made a sudden turn that left me to slam into a wall. My head smacked against the bricks hard, making my vision dance and wane.
My balance shifted and I was on the ground, my bum sore from the landing. I took a moment to collect my sense, but by then, the thief was gone. I ground my teeth in frustration, upset and lost.
The sun had vanished and I was alone, in the dark. I knew what kind of situation this put me in. Matters would soon be turning dire if I didn't return home, and fast.
I jogged back the way I came, or the way I thought I came. I only heard my steps sounding in the night and I thought I was alone, making my third mistake. I, again, was not alone.
I did not see it coming. A figure of someone I hadn't seen before appeared before me and I nearly smacked into them.
"You imbecile! Watch where you tred, you stupid mongrel," I spat harshly, fumes of anger leaving me after being bottled up for such long time. I should have held my tongue.
The stranger did not respond, but a low growl rippled through his chest and I knew I had done something wrong. I made my final mistake only seconds later: I ran.
And he followed.
My legs were soon burning as I tried o escape what was now a beast on four legs snarling and snapping its large jaws at me. My lungs followed suit and I felt myself slowing. I commanded my legs to keep going, to not slow their pace, but it could not be done.
Surely, I would be caught.
And I was. Only moments later, the large beast had me pinned to the hard ground, snarling at me. My breathing was now faster than it had ever been as I stared into blindingly big gold eyes. I felt myself slipping away as its jaws opened to engulf me and I closed my eyes, preparing for the worst.
Then, I felt something heavy and fast hit home on the beast, sending it to the wall. Someone had become my savior.
I opened my eyes again to see the person I had been search for: Neliet.
I ground my teeth, preparing to raise myself from the filthy ground and fling obscenities at him when I froze. He'd been my savior, and I was being an ungrateful little wretch. Huffing, I watched with vague concern as Neliet fought the beast. I took this as an opportunity to see what it was that had attacked me.
I should have noticed the lupine features in the jawline and eyes. It stood on its hind legs, however, and I soon knew it to be a Werewolf, and the light blood that coated its gray fur caught my attention. So, we had found our suspect.
Neliet and the Wolf continued on with their small tussle as I watched on. Their was an exchange of blows and teeth. Neliet was doing most of the damage, but he was sporting a few injuries of his own. To my surprise, I felt sorry for him. And, I never felt anything for him.
The Wolf caught Neliet's chin and a long red gash followed after its claws. I grimaced as Neliet sent a blow that could have cracked human ribs, and surely cracked the wolf's. He let out a soft howl that died down to whimper and I knew it was over.
Almost an hour later, I was now walking home with the culprit of the many murders held by Neliet on a leash. The thin, frail boy that he was restraining was still whimpering, and I was getting a head ailment. The whimpering was cut off, followed by a soft yelp as Neliet smacked the back of the boy's head. I did not look back.
"Neliet, how did you find me?" I was answered with silence.
"Neliet, answer me." He hesitated and began to carefully pick his words.
"I followed you, er, until the thief. I thought you would have let it be, but you ran after him and I had no time to mark my place, so I left. I thought you would-"
The sharp sound of my palm meeting his cheek resounded.
"You dare follow me and not alert me, you bastard! I was out here looking for you, you sorry-"
"You were looking for me?" Why did he seem so shocked?
"Yes, I was looking for you. Do not interrupt me again," I ended, turning away from his suddenly gay face.
We were now at the gate of the manor, as the night had fully set on. The frail boy had not spoken a word since his capture and I intended to get every little bit out of him, no matter what it took. But, for now, I had just another pawn to use.
