TREASURE (JaDine One Shot)

Alexis, a freshmen student, is a simple and outgoing kind of girl. She likes to make people laugh. It was their college acquaintance party when she met Robert, the boy-next-door guy whom a lot of girls are crazy about. Alexis was charmed by Robert's appealing looks but she wasn't crazy about him. She only liked how Robert smiles.

She was walking on the hallway in the third floor of the Ignacio Building when she saw Robert at the very first room of that certain floor. She was walking very slowly until she saw Robert staring at her. She just kept on walking until she reached the last room of that floor. Days passed, the very same thing happened. She always gets glances from Robert.

She needed something for her term papers and she knows that Robert can only give that to her. She really decided for a week if she's going to approach him or not. She had no choice so she got Robert's number and texted him. Robert immediately replied to her text. The next day, they officially met. Days passed, they exchanged text messages and talked whenever they see each other. Alexis and Robert became really close friends and a lot of people got curious on how they got to that stage.

Alexis explained everything to them but others kept on saying bad things about her. One night, a girl saw Robert and Alexis walking down the streets. That girl was Cynthia. She was also Robert's friend. Cynthia has a really big crush on Robert. Cynthia got curious and jealous why Robert and Alexis were together that night so she texted Robert. Robert explained everything but Cynthia was really mad at Alexis. She made up stories about Alexis that really destroyed Alexis and Robert's friendship. Robert then did not text nor talk to Alexis anymore. Alexis texted Robert for so many times but she received no response.

Whenever she sees Robert, she wanted to talk to him but she can't. She can see Robert staring at her but she was just afraid to talk to him. She couldn't stand the issues spreading about her that's why she kept distance with Robert. It was their University Week the following day. Alexis and her friends, Cindy and Jade, went to a bench. There she saw Robert and his classmates beside the very bench they were in. She wanted to approach Robert but she was still afraid. She couldn't stand the pain so she cried. Alexis' friends asked her if what her problem was but she just smiled, with those tears in her eyes.

She saw Robert looking at her. Robert wanted to comfort her but he was still blinded by the lies that Cynthia told him about Alexis. Robert couldn't stand seeing her crying so he left. Then came Cynthia. She went to the bench where Alexis was in. She looked at Alexis and whispered something to her friends. Alexis did not mind it at all. That night, Alexis texted Robert, hoping she would get a response. Guess what? She didn't. She really felt hopeless. Whenever she sees Robert at school, she passes at a different direction just for him not to see her.

Robert then did not see Alexis at school anymore. Cynthia just kept on flirting with him but he did not fall for her. After a year, Robert saw a letter in his locker saying, "This priceless thing I will forever treasure in my heart, our friendship. Thank you and sorry for everything. I'll be missing you. Goodbye. -Alexis"

Robert got curious. He went to Alexis' house. He knocked several times but no one answered. He asked Alexis' neighbors if where were the residents of the house. They told him that they're at the cemetery. Then he immediately went there. He was shocked with what he had seen. "RIP Alexis Sanchez. June 17, 1994 - December 26, 2011"

He wept. He couldn't accept what happened. Then Alexis' mom, Mandy came. She told Robert that Alexis died of leukemia. She comforted Robert and told him to come with her. She showed him Alexis' room. There, he saw their pictures together. The gifts he gave Alexis was all there. He had nothing to do. He just cried and regret what he had done to Alexis before.

He knows that he cannot bring back the past. He cannot bring back Alexis, his best friend, the one he secretly loves but will never have the chance to say it. If only he had swallowed his pride, he would have probably spent Alexis' remaining time here on earth worthy. But... everything now is just... TOO LATE.
