You're just a small bump unborn, in four months you're brought to life
“Brice?” I asked, my hands shaking.
“Yeah?”
“I’m pregnant!”
“You might be left with my hair, but you'll have your mother's eyes” Brice sung to our unborn child with a grin plastered on his face.
“I'll hold your body in my hands, be as gentle as I can
But for now you're scan of my unmade plans
A small bump in four months you’re brought to life” I promised as I slowly ran my hands over my small bump.
I'll whisper quietly, I'll give you nothing but truth,
If you're not inside me, I'll put my future in you,
You are my one and only
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight
“Say hello to your baby girl!” The doctor said as he showed us the image on the ultrasound.
“What are we going to call her?” I quizzed, still gripping Brice’s hand in mine.
“Well, you did like the name Amelia”
Oh, you're just a small bump unknown, you'll grow into your skin.
“What about this?” I asked holding up a pink frilly dress.
“She’ll be our little princess.” Once he said this a smile crept onto my face.
“She will.”
With a smile like hers and a dimple beneath your chin.
Finger nails the size of a half grain of rice,
And eyelids closed to be soon opened wide
A small bump, in four months you'll open your eyes.
“Brice! Can you help me set up this crib?” I asked, lugging in the box containing the pieces to make a beautiful wooden crib for our baby, Amelia.
And I'll hold you tightly, I'll give you nothing but truth,
If you're not inside me, I'll put my future in you
“Guess what?”
“What?” I quizzed turning to face him.
“This.” In his hand Brice held a set of keys.
“What’s this for?”
“Our new home!”
You are my one and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
Oh, you are my one and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
And you'll be alright.
“Tomorrow we move into our new home babe!” Brice reminded me for the millionth time today.
“I know! I can barely wait!”
“And you can lie with me,
With your tiny feet
When you're half asleep,
I'll leave you be.
Right in front of me
For a couple weeks
So I can keep you safe.” I caught Brice singing to Amelia once again. I let out a little chuckle before dozing off back to sleep.
'Cause you are my one and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
“Today’s the day!” I grabbed my car keys and started the ignition.
“I can drive if you want.” Brice offered.
“Nah I’m fine.” I gave him a quick peck on the cheek before reversing out of our old driveway.
And you'll be alright.
I heard tires screech just before a force catapulted me forward.
“No!” I screamed as blood pooled on the floor below me.
'Cause you were just a small bump unborn for four months then torn from life.
Maybe you were needed up there but we're still unaware as why.
