The drive home was silent.
We both knew what was the other's mind, so we stayed quiet.
I didn't say anything, but I saw the tears on Elise's face.
I so badly wanted to hold her and tell her it was all going to be okay, but something told me just to be quiet.
When we got home, Elise silently asscended the stairs.
I sat in the living room staring out the window until the phone rang.
"Hello." I said nonchalantly.
"Vic?" Rachel asked.
I sniffled, "Yeah, hi Rach." I said.
"Is it true?" She asked.
I took a deep breath, "Yeah, yeah it's true. He's gone." I whispered.
"When?" Rachel asked.
"About three weeks ago now." I said.
"Oh my god, what was the cause?" She asked.
"What do you think it was Rachel?" I asked quietly.
She sighed, "It was a matter of time, I guess. He was hitting the shit harder than ever when I left him." She said.
"Yeah, finally got him." I whispered.
"How's Elise taking it?" She asked.
"Not really well. We're al really worried about her being so upset because she's pregnant and all."
"She's pregnant again?" She asked.
"Yeah. And we're trying to keep her in a serene, calm environment." I said.
"I'm so sorry about Mike. I feel awful for leaving him like I did." She said.
"He's a lot to handle, so I don't blame you.' I said.
"I wish you and Elise the best of luck with your baby though." She said.
"Yeah, thanks Rach." I said.
"Bye." She said.
I put my phone on the table and looked at the pictureframe on the coffee table.
"Vic."
I blinked and looked up, "Yeah?" I asked.
Elise was standing beside me, smiling, "Your daughter is moving, I thought you might want to feel it." She said.
I smiled, "Definitely."
She sat down, and put my hand on her stomach, and I felt the baby shift.
"Does she do this often?" I asked.
"I hope not." Elise said.
I smiled.
"So, are you ever go to marry me?" Elise asked, pecking me on the cheek.
I nodded, "I'm going to, I promise. I just have to sift through all this stuff going on." I said.
She nodded, "I understand. It's hard." She said putting her arm around me.
I felt the baby shift again, "I think we should focus all of our attention on this, our little girl. Because she needs all the love in the world from us." I said.
Elise laughed, "Trust me, Jaycela will not be in short supply when it comes to love. She has lots of people to love her. Most importantly, she's got us, her mommy and her daddy, to love her and take care of her." She said.
