Chapter 19: We stick together.

Dustin took a deep breath and started to talk.

He explained everything.

Everything.

At first, I thought they were pranking me, it didn't sound in any way, shape or form realistic. They had to be making this up...

We sat in silence for a bit. I didn't make eye contact, but I started thinking.

These are my best friends, they wouldn't take a prank this far. We trust each other and if we pranked each other we would have stopped a while ago if this was a prank.

They wouldn't mess around about this stuff, it's serious.

I finally started to process the information and I promised myself then and there I would never ever tell anyone, or judge this girl, El. When I walked in she had looked so nervous, and Mike was comforting her.

I guessed from their actions towards eachother that there was something going on there, and I found it quite cute.

I don't know how long I was thinking and fiddling with my fingers for, but I'm sure they expected me to act like this, surely they knew I would have to let it sink in.

Slowly, I began to move my head up and I immediately made eye contact with El. I was startled when I noticed her looking at me in a knowing, yet slightly confused and worried way.

Had I done something?

My eyes darted over in Mike's direction and he was nervously biting his lip, but had not failed to keep hold of El's small hand the entire time.

The room remained silent, I guess no one really knew what to say.

Turning my head to my best friends, I realised they were probably waiting for me to say something.

Taking a deep breath and returning my gaze to my crossed legs, I finally ushered out the words 'thank you for telling me, for trusting me.'

I saw the boys nodding out of the corner of my eye, and I looked up to Mike. We gave eachother a weak smile. I think he's realising he can trust me. I want him to trust me.

Looking back over at El, I realised she still had the same look on her face, but her eyes had widened a bit. I noticed a small bit of blood trickling from her nose and she quickly wiped it away. After this, she quickly checked to see if anyone noticed, which they hadn't. Well, apart from me.

I was so confused, what's going on? What's she using her powers for, nothing was happening.

A voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

'Max, this goes without saying, but please please please do not tell anyone. El is one of us and we all love her incredible amounts, and we will
protect her at all costs.'

Reassuringly, I nodded. I could see how deadly serious they were about this and if I told anyone, I don't even want to think of the possible outcomes.

'I understand, guys you know you can trust me. I won't tell anyone and I'd love to be included in your group and be part of what you guys do. Only if that's okay with Mike and El?' I questioned, turning towards them.

El still looked confused about something and I still wasn't sure what. I'm sure if something was up she'd tell me.

Mike nodded and gave me a smile, but this time it was a genuine smile.

'We stick together, from now on.' Will spoke up.

We all looked at him and nodded, Lucas walked over and hugged Mike and El, which they returned. Dustin walked over and joined in and it wasn't long before we were all having a group hug.

This is nice, I could get used to this. Everything will be okay from now on.

We'll stick together.
