Lyles POV.
"Thank you for coming over" Ivy greeted me as I walked in. Denis was away for the night to his friends Batchelor Party which is in the next town. Ivy didn't want to be alone, not after all that happened. On the day that it all happened she was laughing at the end but it is really affecting her. I sat on the sofa as I noticed the Disney channel was on the TV, Finding Nemo on pause. I smiled as I realised what that meant. I heard a clatter from the bedroom behind me as I laughed to myself. "Lyle! Lyle! Lyle! LOOK AT THIS!" James ordered as he ran and leaped onto the sofa, a toy car in his hand. James is Denis' nephew. He is seven years old and the purest of children. His hair is a deep brown to match his eyes.
"That is awesome!" I called out as he smiled at me and chirped "I know". I wrapped one of my arms around him as he hugged me before resting his head on my side, contently watching Dory swim across the screen. "How are you my little buddy?" I asked as he looked at me with a cheeky grin. "I am good, Ivy promised that all of us are going to have fun today and that I get pizza. OH AND WE ARE BUILDING A FORT!" He cheered at the end as he climbed up and started to leap up and down, a smile on his face as Ivy walked back into the room. "We are not building a fort!" Ivy said as she walked past him and winked at me, showing she was just annoying him.
After the movie finished we decided to draw, Ivy not wanting to go outside and play football with James since she lives directly across from the scene of the event that happened yesterday. James and Ivy lay on the floor as both of them sketched out what they were going to colour in. I sat on the sofa with my large A2 paper folder, one piece on top. I spent an hour just drawing the outline, a simplistic outline that would soon be filled in with lots of detail when I got home. I put the sheet back into the folder before quickly drawing a traditional rose which I do nearly everyday, this way it looks like that was all I was doing, the two were way too involved in what they were drawing to notice my paper swap.
After filling in the rose with reds, blues, purples, and pinks I placed it on the floor before sliding off the sofa as I sat next to them on the floor. I looked at James' drawing which was of a clown. I stared at it for at least a minute until I realised that it was Ronald McDonald, making me laugh. Then I looked at Ivy's drawing. It took me a minute to realise the significance of the drawing. I noticed that it was eyes straight away, that isn't difficult. But then I noticed the specs of gold, just like she had described her Dads eyes on that day. I looked at her as she was so focused before I noticed her digging the pencil into the paper. "Stop" I whispered harshly to her as she come out of her trance, looking at me with wide eyes, realising what she had been doing.
"I'm finished!" James chimed as he stood up, holding out the drawing of Ronald and a burger, hearts surrounding it as both Ivy and I praised him. "I want that heart tattooed" I pointed at one of the hearts on the page, it was coloured in black as James chirped "Really?" as I smiled and nodded. He looked so happy, so proud. It really made my heart melt. "So what are we doing now?" he asked as Ivy sat and thought for a moment, James and I just looked at her with anticipation.
"What if..." she started as she held out her arms which James gladly fell into as he put his arms around her neck, looking at her from a slight distance. "We... Make... COOKIES!" James and I cheered at the offer of making food, both of us leaping up and down. James ran around the sofa while I climbed over it, both of us racing into the kitchen. Half way into the kitchen I picked James up as he laughed calling out "YOU ONLY PICKED ME UP SO YOU DIDN'T LOSE THE RACE". Ivy was just slowly getting up from the floor, shaking her head while laughing. She had two kids to deal with now.
James stood on a small stool to make it easier for him as he mixed the cookie dough, Ivy supervising as I kept stealing small amounts of the raw cookie dough and eating it, much to her annoyance. Well, much to her annoyance before she joined in and we had to make another bowl of cookie dough. We ended up making double chocolate cookies, normal milk chocolate cookies and my special rolo cookies. Half of the cookies had been eaten within five minutes of them being taken out of the oven, all of us agreeing they are better warm, and causing many complains of our mouths burning and making us breathe like dragons without the fire.
