I sat alone, watching silently as the others went about their business in the crowded cafeteria. My eagle eyes came to narrow in on a blonde guy, probably two years older than I, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his jeans and his head lifted too high. Only a single word popped into mind as I watched him slither across to the crowded group of boys. Pompous.

I continued to watch as he slapped casual hands with his friends, eyeing the almost silent cafeteria. His blue eyes raked over every face in the tiled room, taking in his dumbstruck audience. His head, if it were possible, tilted up higher with a sadistic smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. His eyes met mine and the smile disappeared as recognition flashed in his eyes. He and I go way back and not in the kind you think.

We had locked eyes for a few moments before some freshman trotted eagerly over towards him like the filly she was, tossed her blonde hair over her shoulders and gave him the fakest smile I could ever have seen.

Before I knew it, lunch was over and I was trailing through the bustling corridors, trying to push my way towards my locker. I heard the yells before I saw the chaos.

People, even the ‘bullies’ of the school had taken a step backwards, their eyes wide. As I pushed my way through the gathering crowd, I let my eyes glare at the two fighting boys. They had the maturity of five year olds and were probably fighting over something as petty as ‘he stuck out his tongue at me!’

I shook my head and weighed up the consequences. I was either going to stand and simply watch the Jerk, whose head was stuck too far up his ass, bash up an innocent boy in our year level, or, the other option was to step in and tear the Jerk away from him and probably end up punched too. I pulled at my auburn curls as I thought.

The Jerk swung at the other male student, the Jerk’s fist colliding with his jaw bone with a horrid ‘crack’. I sucked in a breath and knew my mind was already made up. It was time the Jerk came back to Earth.

I rushed forward in two leaping bounds, tackling the Jerk to the ground and pinning him beneath me. I shouted, ordering a few of the gaping boys to grab and separate the other boy, and to take him to the infirmary if he needed it. The Jerk glared up at me, shoving me off of him and charged at the other boy again. I had had enough by the time I caught the Jerk’s collar and dragged him behind me as I marched towards the cafeteria.

“Let me go, cow, this is none of your business.” The Jerk hissed up at me twisting in my hands. He squirmed for a while longer before I flung him against a locker. “What the hell, girl, is your problem?” He narrowed his eyes up at me. “And don’t think I won’t hit you.”

“Hit me all you want, at least you have a reason this time. What did you think you were doing bashing up that boy? He was no older than fifteen!” I shouted at him, my hands on my hips. I was furious and I knew he could tell from the flames flickering in my eyes. “You’re such a jerk.” I stormed off, ignoring his colourful words.

“I’ll get you, cow! Watch your back!” He screamed, dusting down his clothes.

I rolled my eyes and stomped back to my locker. Teachers had already made their way to where the incident had taken place but they were a few moments late, I had already sorted it out. A teacher, upon spotting me, slapped me softly on my back.
