"Why did we have to move?" Annikka Fleming grumbled to her twin sister Melanie.
"I don't know, cause maybe dad got a better job here..." Melanie opened the school door and let her sister through. "Lets go find our lockers and get to class."
"Yea, whatever." Nikki mumbled, and followed her sister down the hall. Mel is always perfect and seems to have everything under control, Nikki thought. Why can't I be more like her, mature and friendly... And why did we have to move here from L.A.? I'm 17, and I only had one year of school left, but we had to move! Mel had finally found their lockers, which were right next to each other. Nikki twisted the lock, and opening it, she plopped her stuff into the locker, and got the books she needed.
"What do you have first, Nikki?" Mel, took her schedule out of her hand, and looked at it. "You have Physical Science, and I think that's right there."
"Hmm, yea, smarty pants, thanks, man." Nikki joked and Mel gave her a light punch on the arm.
"Shut up!" she commented, and then turned and walked toward her class. Nikki walked over to the door, sighed, and pushed it open. There were 4 other people in the room, besides the teacher and herself.
She quietly went over to the teacher, who smiled and held out his hand. "I'm Mr. Banks, and you are?"
Nikki shook his hand and answered. "Annikka Fleming."
"Okay, Miss Fleming," Mr. Banks looked at his papers. "You are going to sit by Mr. Thompson at table 5."
"Thank you, sir." Nikki smiled, and turned to table 5. She plopped her books down right as the first bell rang. She looked toward the door as a flood of students rushed in. Soon she was occupied reading the paper that Mr. Banks had put on her table. As students came in, Mr. Banks directed them to their seats.
Finally, Nikki heard, " Hey, Mr. Banks. I'm James Thompson."
"Mr. Thompson, you sit by Miss Annikka Fleming, table 5." the teacher replied, handing him the paper.
Nikki decided she'd save James' Thompson's face to see for later. He slid into the seat next to her as the second bell rang. Nikki looked up as Mr. Banks began talking about the great school year ahead of them, and was glad that she was at the very back of the room. She pulled her phone out of her jean pocket, and began replying to texts. In the middle of her second text, someone reached over and pulled her phone out of her hand. She wanted to yell, but remembered that this was class, and she wasn't supposed to be on her phone. She looked at the person who had taken her phone and was surprised to see that it was James.
"Give it!" She commanded in a whisper and held out her hand. James had a giant smile on his face.
"No texting in class, Miss Fleming." He mimicked Mr. Banks.
Nikki put her hand up to her hand to stiffle a giggle.
James poked her side. "Shhh!" He managed between smiles, and handed her phone back to her.

After class, James came up to Nikki. "So, Miss Fleming," he said with a flourish, "texting in class, writing notes, of course I started that, but the list just goes on and on, and I've only had one class with you. How much worse does it get?" He said, stopping by Annikka's locker as she reached for her books.
"Oh, much worse," she paused for a second. "Look, Mr. Thompson, are you trying to take this somewhere, cause, I need to find my next class..."
"Hand over your schedule, and maybe I can help, Annikka," James swayed back and forth as she fished her schedule out of her bag. "Wow, you have 2nd, 4th, and 6th periods with me. That's 4 periods a day to put up with me, you think you can handle that?"
