My life has never been the easiest. My mum is a nurse and is constantly changing her place of work. One month we could be in London and the next in Cornwall.
I've never really been that bothered about moving. After all I don't get attached easily so I don't make connections to places or people. I suppose it's a good thing as we move a lot but sometimes I wish we could just settle down and just stay.
"Sophie get the box of photos out of the car please!" My mum calls from inside our new house. It's quite big and modern as it's in a newly built estate. I grab the box from the van and take it inside.
"Where do you want it?" I ask.
"Anywhere."
I dump the box on the floor next to the sofa. We've been moving things in for the last few days so our house is basically a house, all that's missing are little things like curtains and photos.
That was the last box of stuff so finally we can just relax. I head upstairs into George's room and open the door. He's sat on his bed playing his Xbox as usual.
"Soph, you doing ok?" He says as I walk in.
"What? Yeah."
"Come on, tell me what's on your mind."
I sigh. George knows me very well. I mean I'm not surprised seeing as he's my brother. George is 17 and I'm 14 so we have spent quite a few years under the same roof. Since dad died, we seemed to have gotten closer.
"I just-. Everything is different." I say sitting on the bed.
"How so?"
"The house, the moving, everything. Since dad died everything seemed to change."
"We knew that it would though."
"Doesn't make it any easier." I mumble. George pulls me into a hug.
"I know things are tough but we are going to be fine here."
"What for two months before we move again?"
"Come on, don't be like this."
I know I'm being stubborn but it's how I feel. I just want to stay here or anywhere for some time. Longer than a couple of months. I just want to be normal.
"Look, how about we go down to McDonald's and I'll get everyone some food yeah?" George smiles.
"Yeah , I'll go get Delilah." I reply getting up. Delilah is our half sister. After dad died, mum remarried a guy named James and they had Delilah. She's only one now but dad passed away four years ago.
I don't blame mum for remarrying but it took some time to get used to. I like James though so I guess all is ok. I walk into Delilah's room and see James sitting with her.
"Hey, can I come in?"
"Sure, she just woke up." I walk over to him and he hands me Delilah.
"So what's the plan kiddo?" James asks me, ruffling my hair.
"McDonald's? George says he'll pay. Also there's a park down the road that I thought we could go to?"
"Sounds like a plan. I'll go get your mum."
