Rwby: Child of Grimm: Volume 5 (Indefinite Hiatus)

Chapter 1: No Safe Haven

In the city of Mistral, the team of weary travellers continues their rest, with moderate calmness. As Ruby writes a letter to her father and sister back home, Ryu sleeps restlessly in the bed beside her, seemingly struggling with bad dreams of his own. In the other room, Ren and Nora gratefully eat the breakfast prepared for them by the woman who saved them two nights ago and that same woman, Tanya, is now having a conversation with the recovered Qrow.

[Tanya] "Do you understand now?"

Qrow lets out an exasperated sigh before speaking.

[Qrow] "Yeah, even if I managed to find all of the huntsman here and they agree to work with us, we'll still be outnumbered by their...what were they called again?"
[Tanya] "Black Knights, created by the group that split off from our own, calling themselves Nidhogg. They're enhanced humans designed with the sole purpose of being unstoppable on the battlefield. The most dangerous of these is Zero, though we do have a countermeasure against him. The other issues include the white fang and Salem's Corrupted."
[Qrow] "Right. They've got an army of people like the kid on their side."
[Tanya] "Not quite little bird. Ryu and his brother are similar but hold power that's constantly evolving and adapting. The corrupted on the other hand, are simply hosts capable of two things. Their enhanced, humanoid forms and their transformed Grimm states that cause them to abandon their minds in favour of power."
[Qrow] "That sounds like something that witch would do."

With their conversation reaching an end, Qrow pulls out his flask and takes a swig while Tanya puts a cigar in her mouth and lights it.

[Qrow] "alright then, mind grabbing everyone? It's time we went to meet up with Lionheart."
[Tanya] "Alright, though why that coward became the headmaster I'll never understand."
[Qrow] "Oz' trusted him, so I'll trust Oz'."

Meanwhile, in an airship flying above an enormous lake, Weiss stands in the back of the cockpit, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.

[Weiss] "So, how much farther?"
[Pilot] "We're in the home stretch now."

The ship shakes slightly from turbulence before they continue.

[Pilot] "No more stops from here to Mistral. Sorry for the long trip. Keeping us off the radar's been harder than I thought. Lots of air traffic around northern Anima."
[Weiss] "It's fine. I...just hope I haven't been a burden."

The pilot looks back at Weiss and then at her travelling partner with the eyepatch and chuckles.

[Pilot] "You, your friend and your money are more than welcome on this ship kid."

The ship's radio suddenly picks up a transmission.

[Pilot] "what the...?"

He reaches over and adjusts the slider on the transmitter, evening out the wavelengths on the screen.

[Weiss] "Is everything okay?"
[Pilot] "I don't know. We're still over Lake Matsu. Shouldn't be picking up broadcasts this far from Mistral. Someone must be close."
[Tazem] "Lancers."
[Weiss] "Huh?"

Before Weiss can ask for clarification, a female voice begins speaking over the radio on a panic. Hearing this, Weiss' attention is brought back to the transmitter.

[Mistral Pilot] "Mayday, mayday! We are a small passenger flight, and our Huntress is down! We aren't equipped to deal with this!"
[Pilot] "oh man."
[Mistral Pilot] The Grimm hit us 400 klicks north of the southern shoreline!"

Weiss' eyes open wide at the sound of an explosion and the Mistral Pilot gasping over the radio.

[Mistral Pilot] "Get them off us! If anyone can hear this- Ah!"
