"I'm starting to get the hang of this guys" Tony said aloud to all of us. I chuckled and looked at my cards. 20, good enough. I'm not taking the chance of going over. I've got too much money riding on this.
"Hm, 50k." I said pushing my chips in the center. The guys looked at me as if I was stupid, eh I probably am for doing this. Too late now. Tony laughed and matched my 50k. Venice groaned and looked at his cards. I raised an eyebrow at him.
"If that's your pacemaker making all that noise, it needs to be lubed." I said to Venice. He scowled at me and checked his cards once more.
"Alrighty Venice, something's making you sweat." I said stiffly. He glanced down and smiled. He matched our 50k and then some.
"Shit." I said as I flipped my cards. He laughed and flipped his. I just lost 50,000 dollars to a fucking crack head. Dammit, Donny is going to kill me.
"Damn, you got it Venice." I said to him shaking his drenched hand.
"Yeah, I did Luke." He replied as he moved His hand back from mine.
"Don't let Donny kill you. Toby, you might wanna leave with your idiot brother." He said to my brother and I.
"My name is Tony, not Toby." My brother said as he grabbed his bag. I shook my head at him to tell him he's fighting a losing battle. We handed our money over and left with our heads hanging low. I struggled to find the right words to tell Tony, that I would keep him safe. We got in my escalade and started driving. I looked at Tony smiling. He shook his head and leaned on the door. I sighed, I guess there's nothing I can do to make him believe everything will be okay. We drove in silence for a while, before I turned on the radio. I didn't want us both super tense when we met up with Donny. I stopped at a red light and cranked up the radio. The song that came on wasn't anything I had heard before but Tony started to hum the song. He looked at me and smiled. I saw in his smile sadness. He looked just like mom, she died several years ago in a small house fire. I continued to drive until I caught sight of the pub a little ways up the street from us. I shook my head and slowed down to a creep. I didn't want to rush into something that could get my little brother, or myself hurt...or worse.
