A scream came from cabin block A. “Alyssa whatever happens we stay together,” whispers Lucinda.
“Sure Luci I was like just thinking that,”
“Quiet!” The girls head to the door to see what’s happening then hear another student scream “run!” There is a knock at their door. Alyssa reaches for the handle but Lucinda grabs her bony hand and they both run out the back door and hide in a bush. “What was like that for?”
“Shh!” Lucinda points to the cabin window.
“It’s only Ms S.”
“Yeah with blood of her mouth.” The backdoor slams open and Ms S is staring at both of them in the eyes. “Are you like okay Miss you like don’t…”
“Run!”
“Why?” Lucinda grabs Alyssa arm again, the two girls sprint away from the camp cabins, venturing into the bush.
It was a full moon that night but the trees casted shadows so thick and heavy that the girls couldn’t see a thing. They stepped on toads and didn’t bother looking for snakes, nothing was kept the girls from running until they ran into a tree. They both were sprawled lifeless on the ground for some time.
Then Lucinda woke and could see another figure in the distance so she tried to wake Alyssa but she didn’t even twitch. Lucinda scaled up the pine tree they had run into balancing the skinny body of her friend. From this vantage point she could see everything including that figure that moved towards the tree. The plan was to stay up there until day light but that could be a teacher at their feet.
Luckily when Alyssa woke up she pointed to something unusual. It was a group of students huddled together with what looked like rainbow rocks and gadgets placed in a circle around them, the vampire teachers not crossing that circle. “Change of like plan, we’re like heading towards those other students,” suggested Alyssa. They head down the tree to greet Ms S with a punch in the face. It stunned her momentarily and gave the girls enough time to get a head start.
They head into the camping grounds and Mrs Jenkins is straight ahead so they changed direction. Lucinda tripped and Ms S grabbed her. Lucinda screamed. Alyssa grabbed Lucinda’s arm and pulled her up, they sprinted the fasted they could. “Screaming was like a bad idea Luci, the last like vampire book I read said like that vampires follow screams of like people in distress. Look straight ahead, that’s all the vampires you summoned.”
The girls were surrounded by a circle and the only opening was a water tank. “We can’t do…” Alyssa grabbed Lucinda’s arm and they ran towards the tank. They hoped the power from the run up would be enough. Bang! They ran straight into the tank but the teachers had closed in on them. “Use like me.” Lucinda stepped on the platform Alyssa made out of her hands then reached for the top of the tank and pulled herself up. She lowered her hand and pulled Alyssa up. A teacher grabbed onto Alyssa’s ankle. Alyssa screamed then Lucinda found the strength to win her over.
“Why did you scream?” They turned to each other and laughed, then turned to the huddled group of other students and ran in that direction with the vampire teachers on their tail. They stepped over the colour rocks and gadgets which turned out to be lollies and phones and the vampire teaches just stopped and stared. “So that’s why teaches say don’t bring lollies and phones to camp.”
