Clary couldn't think straight. Did that mean her own home where her mother keeps all her paintings? No, definitely not. It was here. The Institute. But that's not possible. Is it?
The Institute was impenetrable. He couldn't get here. Right?
She had come to her room for a break from everyone else and now she felt as if she would collapse.
So much for calming down.
Clary quickly pulled out her phone and took a picture of the note, making sure the evidence wouldn't burn away again.
With a deep breath, she walked out of her room and headed for Izzy's room. She knocked timidly and Izzy through open the door beckoning her in.
Clary was very grateful to have her parabatai right now. She needed to straighten out where everyone is.
Jace: Sebastian
Alec: Hospital bed basically fully recovered (went to wedding and felt almost 100%)
Simon: Band practice deciding on a new name, pedopholic swing set or the rabid ducklings
Jocelyn: Crying
Luke: At peace with his inner werewolf.
Maia: Joining him
Jordan: Still not speaking to any of us
And then that leaves the three girls downstairs. Clary was still unsure if she could trust any of them.
They all seemed nice enough but these days, nice doesn't cut it. Any or all of them could be Sebastian's helper. How will she know?
She vented about every ounce of her feelings to Izzy, who for once didn't make a snide remark or interrupt. Clary talked profusely and when she was done almost had to draw a rune on herself so she could catch her breath.
But Izzy understood every word. She even understood when Clary started to tell her about Sebastian. Everyone knew Clary had been taken, but she hadn't told anyone about what happened.
Until now.
She detailed every event, maybe even a few she shouldn't have. But she couldn't care less. She could finally tell someone.
Clary had just recalled the most recent event and pulled out her phone. She was going to show Isabelle the picture when it started ringing.
She saw her mothers number and frantically picked it up. Clary hadn't heard from Jocelyn since... the incident.
"Hello." Clary said starting out with a happy expression to hear her mom. But that expression fell immediately. Soon, Clary was running out the door of the Institute and farther than she ever expected she'd have to go.
Isabelle was chasing after her but Clary could only keep her mind on one thing.
She came to an abrupt halt when she arrived at her destination. She fell to her knees and buried her head in her hands. She knew it had been true but couldn't believe it without seeing it for herself.
When Izzy came over she let out an audible gasp.
Luke's house was down in flames.
