Chapter 13: You want to know who I am?!?!

The sleek Mercedes Benz Lucas was driving in was cool and roomy but he couldn't help the feeling that everything was beginning to suffocate him. He sat in the middle of the plush backseat row lost in his own thoughts. All Lucas could think about was everything that could go wrong today. For starters, an exchange as raw and tense as this could mean death for both parties. Lucas was so furious with Judd that he couldn't promise anyone if he saw the man again he wouldn't hesitate to pull the Desert Eagle .50 that was strapped to his waist and shoot him in the head. Judd was probably thinking the same thing right now about Lucas. 

 Lucas wanted so badly to torture Judd with his own bare hands to release the pent up anger he caused him but more importantly to get revenge for Marilyn. However, the "rational Lucas" that was now starting to grow in him, after all these years, knew that Judd being alive was the only way Marilyn would live. He had to give credit where credit was due, Judd thought this plan through thoroughly and executed it without a flaw. Granted, he had 3 years to get over his pent up anger to effectively create this plan based on logic rather than emotion but Judd had to be the first person in a long time to effect Lucas with a threat. 

 Since Judd, Lucas couldn't help but think how many people out there in the world were like him. Just how many people in the world were waiting for his moment of vulnerability to attack? It was no surprise to Lucas that he made enemies but no one dared to cross him. They had all been afraid of their  fate if they dared to try, death. Inevitably, that was Judd's fate too, but it didn't seem to stop him like it stopped the others. And that very reason was why today's exchange was much more than just an exchange. It was an act to restore Lucas' reputation. He had never fallen to anyone's threats before and if word got out that he fell victim to a crazy, pathetic, ex-scientist with a group of rogue BEAU security agents, than his other enemies would try the same thing. Lucas didn't need that especially not with Marilyn in his life. He honestly did not care what people thought of him, he never did. But if this reputation was the only way to keep his enemies at bay and away from Marilyn then his main prerogative would be maintaining it.  

Lucas leaned over and pressed the button that would bring down the partition between him and his driver. "How far are we?" He asked when the partition was completely down. 

The driver took his eyes of the road momentarily to glance in the rear view mirror. "At most five minutes, sir." 

Lucas nodded and leaned back in the seat.

He took a deep breath.

He needed everything to go right today, Marilyn's life depended on it.

 The six men that sat in the black Chevy Suburban were armed and ready for battle. The word battle was a tad dramatic but you could never guess what would happen at "meet and greets" like this. Lucas and Judd set rules for today but because the tension was so thick Jake knew no one was going to follow them. Jake knew that because Lucas was so angry following the rules that were set wasn't on his agenda.

Jake leaned back in the seat and took a deep breath. It had been a while since anything like this happened and he didn't want to mess up again. He already blew the last task he was given and he couldn't afford to have the same thing happen again. After failing to get Kenton, Jake needed to gain Lucas' trust again. And for that very reason, today was more than an exchange to him. It was a day where hopefully Lucas' faith and trust in Jake being able to do his job would be restored.

"Five minutes away boys." Dirk said from the front of the jeep.

Dirk's heavy accented voice sounding in the crowded car was a reminder of how hard it would be to restore Lucas' faith. Regardless of what Jake or Dirk wanted they HAD to work together. However, the encounters they had since meeting hadn't gave signs of an effective working relationship.
