The day of the match arrived as quick as lightning. We were playing a Scottish school who had a reputation for good ball control and normally dominating the ball possession. The nerves were very apparent throughout the team as we jogged through our warm-up sequence.
We had travelled up to Scotland to play the other team at their home ground and our coach had decided that we should make a mini holiday out of the match weekend. Considering the seven hour journey, it would be silly to only stay for the day. Instead, Mr Johnson had booked us into a hotel for four days. The first day, we would play the match. The second day was to be spent relaxing and exploring the local area and then the last two days were for us to do as we pleased.
The match began at the sharp blow of the whistle. The pre-game nerves were immediately forgotten as everybody relaxed into our planned strategies and tactics (tic tacs as Mr Johnson liked to call them).
The half time whistle was blown and our team jogged over to Mr Johnson.
"Fantastic play team! Emily and Brooklyn, well done on the goals! Peter, excellent ball possession! Lilly and Callum, great defending, oh and Toby? Where has he got to? Ah yes Toby! very well done on that slide tackle, most impressive."
Mr Johnson's choice of language never failed to make me laugh. His enthusiasm was incredibly infectious and always gave our team that sometimes-needed motivational boost.
The second half of the match was played just as well as the first half. We came away with a 3-0 win and a team full of smiles. The opposing team provided us with a good match and Mr Johnson had agreed for their team to travel down to the Academy and play us for a friendly some time.
When we arrived back at the hotel after the match, we were given three hours to unpack and settle in before a celebratory dinner at 8pm.
I was sharing a room with Lilly as we were the only two girls in the team. To begin with, she had been very shy but we were now best friends. We had so much in common and she was such a laugh too.
Brooklyn, Toby and Callum were all sharing a room just across the corridor from us and we had all agreed that we would have a midnight feast that night in their room.
I has my suspicions about there maybe being a thing going on between Toby and Lilly due to Toby's constant "does Lilly talk about me much?" comments and questions.
When I had unpacked my bag and hung up my kit, I jumped in the shower quickly before picking out a little black dress for the meal, putting on my makeup and letting Lilly curl my hair.
"Awh Emily you look stunning" Lilly commented as I checked my outfit over in the mirror.
Lilly had insisted that I wore a pair of her wedged sandals and I wasn't going to complain: they were stunning!
