After over thinking outfit plans for the first day of school last night, Indigo Miller gave up and managed to scramble something together in the morning. If it wasn't obvious already, that wasn't a smart idea. Ashton, her best friend, had offered to pick her up at 7:20, and stated he would leave at 7:35 with or without her.
Unfortunately, it was a bit over 7:40 in the morning when Indigo ran downstairs into her kitchen. Her father was cooking some pancakes and her mother was pouring her coffee in a portable mug. Her mother smiled at her quietly, before scattering away for her shoes. A few seconds later, a bottle of orange juice was handed to her by her father.
"Good morning, Indi."
"Morning, Pop. Can't eat breakfast, sorry. Give it to Jaris if she's still here." She spoke, referring to her younger sibling
"Jaris is at school already, Indi. I dropped her off earlier for her first day of second grade. Remember, I offered to drop you off and you said no because Ashton—"
"Shit, Ashton." She mumbled, realizing she left him waiting. "Did he come inside earlier?"
"No, he didn't. Talk to him about it at school, kiddo. You should get going. You have to pick up Jaris for me, too. Don't forget. And stop cursing."
She laughed lightly and hurriedly ran out the house. Once her body successfully landed in a seat on the train, she let out a soft sigh and opened her orange juice. The ride was quiet, as if everyone decided to come early on the first day of school but her. She sat there, sipping orange juice while the book bag she bought with Mrs. Miller hugged her back.
Indigo the album played from her phone, while she mentally yelled at herself. If only she woke up earlier, she would be with Ashton all day and not worrying about having someone to be with on the first day of junior year.
Once she arrived at school, however, something felt kind of different. People were talking everywhere, and although that's normal on the first day, you could sense the difference. Believing they were talking about her, Indigo manages to walk to the bathroom as quickly as she could without looking like her bladder was on the verge of explosion. She combed her hair a bit in the bathroom, examining herself in the mirror. It can't be her, she just got here. She's not a new kid anymore; it's her second year in this school. So what was all the commotion about?
Her question was answered by two sophomores exiting the bathroom. She pretended to be texting someone while eavesdropping on their conversation.
"Did you see him yet?" girl one, in the neon t-shirt questioned.
"No I haven't, is he as cute as everyone says he is? Tell me everything, Arianna." girl two, with the band beanie replied.
"Yes! Totally, I even talked to him, he seems sweet. Besides his amazing looks of course."
"Wait, he's a junior? Why can't he be in our grade?" band beanie complained.
"Oh quit complaining, Claudia. His name is Alex, by the way." neon t-shirt squealed, before they exited officially.
Indigo laughed. It's just a new boy they'll all get over by the end of the month. She had bigger things to worry about. One of them being finding Ashton and asking for a ride to Jaris's school after the first day ends. She exited the bathroom while composing a text for Ashton. She was halfway through the word Jaris when she bumped into someone.
