"Griffin, put that back where you found it!" Erebus called across the room, filled with imperialistic soldiers who were charging at the two with all of their might. Griffin grinned sideways and slashed at another guard who walked a bit too close. He fell to the ground, clutching his waist. Erebus lunged at a guard who was preparing to sprint towards Griffin. They should've died hours ago when they first traveled to this wretched place.
"Can't return an item to a dead person, Vic 'refused to meet with the Pope' and died a horrible death," Griffin called back to her. He gripped a silky green sash in his left hand while fending off soldiers with his right. One guard managed to knock off Griffin's glasses, but Erebus had charged in and stabbed the guy in the back, saving Griffin yet again. He didn't even say thanks.
"You killed Victor Emmanuel II?" Erebus gasped. All of the guards in the room stopped what they were doing and rotated to face Griffin. There were about 10 pairs of eyes on him, not counting Erebus. She realized what she did and her eyes widened. "Shit... Griffin, bolt!" She vaulted over the guard before her, making him fall in the process.
Griffin grinned yet again and stuck his tongue out at the pursuers who could run quite fast for extremely short men. He was on Erebus' heels, soon catching up with her. They were running side by side with a miniature army of nine soldiers chasing behind them.
Erebus lapped a corner and grabbed Griffin's wrist. He was almost pulled off balance taking a sharp turn, but the guards ran straight by. Or, most of them. Two were smart enough to stop and check the 'empty' corridor that Erebus and Griffin had ran down. The two guards and the twins locked eyes for an awkward moment.
"Sono finiti qui!" One of the guards called out. The twins were smart enough to realize what the guards had just done. They each tackled their own guards.
Erebus glanced up and put on the deepest voice that she could, and yelled. "Stavo solo scherzando," Griffin's eyes widened. "Continua ad andare!" She didn't sound at all like the guard who had yelled in the first place, but it must have worked. The guards didn't return for a full minute and the twins assumed they were safe.
"You can speak French?" Griffin asked, appalled. Erebus smacked him on the back of his head.
"You idiot, that was Italian," She slightly smiled at Griffin's idiocy. "Let's go. We don't have long, considering how you just murdered the King of Sardinia."
The two navigated their way back to Ivan's shop, where they had appeared. He was utterly amazed that the two had managed to survive on their own.
"Fuck out of my way, Ivan," Erebus muttered to him. "I need to go back to my own time, thanks." Ivan backed away and ushered the two into the back room, where a slight orange ball was hovering two feet or so above the ground. Ivan opened up a panel on the wall and flipped a couple of switches, and the orange ball expanded. It became the portal that Erebus and Griffin entered a couple of days ago, when they first arrived back at this time.
"By the way," Right before leaving, Griffin had to speak up. "Your leader, Victor, is dead. I accidentally killed him. He sure had a bomb-ass sash though," Griffin held up the green sash once again and dove into the portal before Ivan could tackle him in rage. He caught Erebus' foot, but her hand was already through the portal.
"Damn you Griff," She muttered. Turning around, she stomped on the giant man's hand wrapped around her left foot. She reached for the panel and flipped one switch, the one with a label she was able to read: "vicino". She whirled around once again and dove through the portal just like Griffin had done.
She fell from a foot and slammed into the concrete beneath her as the portal disappeared. "For fucks sake," She muttered angrily. "Griffin Anso Lane, if you ever do that again, I will personally rip your spine out. And burn that sash." Griffin, who was standing above her, faked a gasp.
