Chapter 7: Tinted Images of a Runaway Wolf
"John, I need to talk to you." Adrian announces, not giving him time to respond before he pulls the kid from his seat at the cafeteria table.
"Hey!" John protests, trying to stop Adrian without making a scene. How did no one see him snatch up John like that? Not a single one of his friends saw?
Adrian doesn't pay any mind to John's protests. He just continues to pull him along to the back door of the school. Once outside, he brings John past the football field to the side of the school.
He senses a surge of strong magic when they stop by the wall. Assuming it's John's magic, Adrian lets go of him and holds up his hands in a sign of peace. "I just want to talk, so don't attack me."
John glances around anxiously, his nerves on end as he checks the area for any passerby. "Then why did you drag me out here?" He demands to know, thinking of the first time the vampire did something like this because he needed a spell done for Ivie.
By the way his magic is boiling just below the surface of his skin, he knows there's potential danger in this situation. He curls his hands into fists to keep his magic from sparking at his fingertips. He hasn't felt this threatened in a while.
"Lucas is missing and I need your help to find him." Adrian cuts to the chase.
John only pauses to flick his golden hair away from his eyes. "What do you need me to do?" He offers, ready to help find his best friend.
"I need you to do a locator spell. I can get Lucas if I know where he's at." Adrian informs the Spellcaster, wishing that he'd hurry up already. Mr. Woltz is waiting in his car down the street. Adrian's never known Mr. Woltz to be patient.
"Fine. Give me a second." John demands as he closes his eyes and focuses on Lucas. He thinks of the latest version of his friend, the werewolf who's been coming to school tired every day this week, to get the best result for his location.
Adrian bounces on his heels impatiently, suddenly hearing Mr. Woltz talking, knowing that he would pick up on it with his super hearing. "Adrian, what's taking so long? Hurry up."
"Just a minute." He mutters as an answer to his sire.
"What did you say?" John asks when he hears Adrian whisper something just as he's finished the spell. It only took him a moment to complete the task at hand.
"Nothing. I was speaking with the person waiting for me. Did you do the spell?" Adrian says to change the subject away from him and back to Lucas.
John realizes what Adrian is doing, the same thing he always does by turning all the attention from himself so he can keep more secrets. "Yes. He's out in the woods, but not anywhere around here." He tells him with a frown, attempting to pinpoint his best friend's location through the jumbled images he got.
"Okay, then where in the woods is Lucas at?" Adrian asks in exasperation, needing to get on with this. The longer Lucas is in his wolf form, the farther away he can get. And if they don't catch him, he could remain a wolf until the day after the next full moon.
