As I stepped out of the movie theater with my best friend Josie, there were only two things on my mind. Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. We were having a debate on who was the cuter actor.

"Excuse me? Armie's accent in the movie made him ten times hotter." Josie argued.

"--than he actually is?" I added on for her. She shot me a glare and tried to walk faster than me.

Ha! My inseam was four inches longer than her's so it wasn't even a competition.

As we crossed the parking lot in seconds she stopped me from getting in her car. "Just for that comment, you're walking home." She said then slipped into her car with a smirk on her face.

I quickly ran to the other side of the car before she had the chance to pull out of the parking space. "Hey!" I protested and knocked on her window.

She rolled it down with a smile still on her face. "Do you have something you want to say?" She asked and batted her eyelashes in an attempt to coax me into saying that Armie was better.

I sighed. "Come on, Josie. We're roommates. You know how bad crime is at night."

Her smirk quickly disappeared and she started to roll up the window. "Then find a bus stop and wait a few hours." She growled just before she rolled up the window completely.

I chased after her car for a few hundred meters and then gave up. This is so dumb, I thought to myself. If Josie wasn't so sensitive, I'd be on my way home right now.

Anyway, I followed her advice and started to walk to the bus. As I rounded the street corner I saw a gang of three guys beating up on a decent sized kid. The kid was in no way small but he wasn't bulky. I froze and stared till the count three, till the kid looked over at me.

What do I do?

I panicked. I wasn't sure if I should tell them to stop, call for help, or just turn my back on them and pretend I didn't see anything. Apparently, I was spacing out and didn't notice one of the guys come up in front of me.

"If I was you," he said slowly and bent down to my height. "I'd turn around and forget about this loser."

I'm nearly six foot tall and this guy towered over me like a troll. The way he smelled made me want to gag. Not to mention the tone he spoke to me in. He talked to me like I should've been held back a grade.

A smile spread across my lips as I stuffed my hands in my sweatshirt pocket and looked up at the troll. I said nothing to him as I moved around him and towards his group of friends with the kid.

They were focused on me like I was going to be their next snack. "Sorry boys," I announced and surprised myself almost as much as them, "but the you're right by the bus stop and the closest one is three miles away."

I moved around them and I could feel all of their eyes on me. They ignore me as soon as I sat down on the bench.

"If you don't mind me asking--" I started.

"We do." They all growled at the same time.

"--why are you picking on a guy like him?" I continued like they hadn't cut me off.

"Don't." I heard the kid groan right before he took a knee to the chest.
That pissed me off. If you're going to beat up on someone, do it by yourself and use your hands.

"He disrespected us." I heard the guy that was throwing all the punches say. He was probably their leader.

I shrugged my shoulders and stood up again. "I've beaten up kids for less," I admitted.

They smiled at me for that. "You want to throw a punch or two at this guy? We're almost done with him anyway." The leader offered.

I cracked my knuckles and smiled evilly. "Keep him steady, will ya?" I said. I threw a punch and hit the kid in the jaw. When I went to punch him again I purposely missed and hit the leader right in the sternum. He fell backwards into the street and one of his buddies went to help him. I kicked the last guy in the shins with my combat boots and yanked the kid out of his hold.

"Run!" I yelled and pulled his bloody corpse next to mine as I willed him to run. We made it almost a mile with the kid limping and crouched over.

"I have. To. Stop." He panted. I slowed down but didn't stop completely. I looked down the road for the guys in hopes that they didn't follow us.

I looked down at the kid and he was starting to sit down. I stopped him and wrapped his bloody arm over my shoulder. "No, no, no. You have to keep on your feet. My apartment is just a few more blocks." I said. I dragged him two blocks and we had to stop again.

"Why did you do that?" He asked as he braced himself with his palms on his knees.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was keeping in and sat down on the curb with my back to him. "Anyone would have done it." I said even though as soon as the words left my mouth I didn't believe them. The kid sat down next to me far away so I couldn't see his face.

"Why did you do that?" I asked him.

He shrugged his shoulders and I thought it was best to leave it at that since he clearly didn't want to talk about it. I looked down the street and saw my apartment building at the end.

"Can you walk by yourself?" I asked him though I could see it in the way that he was sitting that he couldn't even get up without me. He shook his head after he attempted to get up by himself.

"You throw a mean left hook." He said and I thought I saw a flash of a smile on his lips.

"Thanks." I said and returned the smile.
