As soon as the light flashes green Tara steps on the gas peddle sending the car flying forward faster than I like. It's dark and we're downtown in some city many miles from home.
My friends and I had gone to a concert and we were heading back from the show. Me being the constant unenergized person I am was tired as soon as we left the venue and entered the car. But Tara and Dalen on the other hand are loose cannons. I swear they have enough energy to power a house. While I'm snuggled up against James, my boyfriend, those two are in the front chatting up a storm.

"No but the way he looked at me. I mean he was right up in my face during that last song! He was fucking nuts!" Tara says waving her hands as she drives.

"Yeah and the guitar solo during that last song had everyone going insane!"

"No no no, it was that damn scream and the way he spoke to the crowd. He had everybody off their feet."

I roll my eyes and smile as I press myself against James. Those two are cringey. He teasingly pulls my hood over my head to cover my eyes. I giggle and hug him tighter.

"I'm telling you they responded to him! As soon as he went to the middle of the stage and held his guitar up everyone lost their shit! Did you even see the crowd?" Dalen exclaims.

They continue arguing over the music blasting in the car. James wraps his arms around me and kisses the top of my head. A smile creeps its way across my face. I feel so safe, so at peace in his embrace. I feel invincible, like nothing can hurt me. James has always been there for me and protected me no matter what. I look up at him and he smiles back down.
As we pass a streetlight it glints across his face and reveals his green eyes from the darkness. I yawn and feel my eyelids get heavier.

Even with the rock music blaring, the excitement of Tara and Dalen's conversation, and the humming of the car engine I find it easy to sleep. Nothing could take away the peacefulness I feel.

Nothing.
